    My Coral is dead..or dying

Stability is more important when it comes to temperature than a specific number. You don't want big temperature swings.

    Ok, now what?

You can (and probably should) use water from your DT for the QT if the parameters of the water are good. You can also do a mix of water from the DT and fresh saltwater if you want. Using water from the DT will give you a head start on biological filtration. Plus it's a water change for your...

    My Coral is dead..or dying

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that things are not quite as bad as they first seemed. I know a lot of us were horrified when you initially thought that all of your coral and inverts were gone. It's nice to know that some of them are making a come back.

    My Coral is dead..or dying

I've been wondering how your tank is doing. I haven't seen any updates lately. I really really hope that your fish are all still doing well and that some of your corals and inverts are making a recovery. I've been depressed all week because my Midas Blenny jumped. I can't even imagine what...

Where do you put your carbon? When is a good time to add it?

I use boyd's chemi-pure which comes in a mesh bag. I just shove it between baffles in my sump. Two bags of chemi-pure (the recommends amount for my tank size) pretty much cover the width of my sump when flattened between the baffles.

Carbon for air exhaust on skimmate collection cup

I recently replaced my ASM Mini G skimmer on my 90G with a Marine Precision Bullet 1. The skimmate collector for Marine Precision skimmers has a PVC chimney for holding activated carbon to remove foul odors from the air exiting the collector. My question is what kind of Activated Carbon should...

    just starting...I'm scared !!!!!!!!!!!!

That price sounds good to me. I payed more than that for just my live rock. I wouldn't say that you can't have coral with that setup. It really depends on what kind of T5 fixture that is. Anyone that says anything requires metal halides is full of it in my opinion. I think there are more...

What type of water are you using for your water changes? Using unfiltered tap water could be causing this.

    Blue tang scratching on Rocks?

It's called flashing. Some flashing is normal and expected for tangs. Excessive flashing can be a sign of parasites like ick.

WOW! Refractometer vs Hydrometer (New people read!)

The upside is that I never would have found these forums if I hadn't been freaking out because my hydrometer was reading off the charts. I was looking for help and fast. I was ready to start massive water changes to bring my SG down. It turns out that I had a couple of microbubbles sticking...

    Selcon + Skimmer = microbubbles?

I scoop a couple of ounces of water out of the tank into a small glass. I put the frozen food cubes into the water to defrost. I add a few drops of selcon, vitachem or garlic extreme to the mixture. I stir every now and then until it is all defrosted and let sit for a few more minutes. I...

When do you just say I quit?

I guess I'll jump on the aquarium service bashing bandwagon... A few weeks ago my mother-in-law was speaking very highly of the service that she has for the reef in her office. Then my wife was visiting her office yesterday and sent me a text that said, "OMG! My moms tank is overrun with...

    Selcon + Skimmer = microbubbles?

Most of the time it only lasts about 30 minutes. This AminOmega stuff causes it to last for hours. I guess I'll keep it out of the rotation. My skimmer is in my sump. There is even a baffle between my skimmer and return pump. I still get crazy microbubbles. Even with a sponge in the baffle...

    Selcon + Skimmer = microbubbles?

I've noticed that I get a lot of microbubbles in my tank sometimes when I feed. The amount and duration seems to be related to which additive I soak the food in. I almost always soak my food in either Garlic Extreme, Boyds Vitachem or Selcon. Twice now I've tried soaking it in AminOmega and...

    Wet Dry noise

I'm using a similar sump with the same gray hose. I was getting a lot of gurgling noise like you. I added a 90 degree elbow and it helped. Most of the time it's fine now, but for some reason it starts to gurgle again when I feed. It makes a lot of noise and my return starts filling my tank...
