How often to do water changes

I have read many threads where people say they do changes in various percentages at various intervals. I've never seen anyone say they do them when nitrate hits x ammount. Removing notrate is the reason you should change water. Water changes are stressful to your livestock, IMO, you should only...

    My new neighbor, a hawk!

Yeah, that pic sure looks like him. I looked right at him a couple times but didn't see him until he moved his head. I'd love to see my neighbors faces when the discover what he left on the grill.

    My new neighbor, a hawk!

I was on my computer which is by a dormer on the 3'rd floor. I looked out at the tree by my window and there sits a hawk at least 10" tall. The bluejays weren't happy and 5 of them started flying at him. They left when he effortlessly lifted a talon and snagged one right out of the air. Thats...

    Tomato or cinnamon clown???

Make sure the new one isn't too much smaller. Check at the same store, maybe their supplier doesn't know the difference. It has to have that black fin to be a cinnamon. It's really more complicated than that but having that black fin makes it definate. It's really a crap shoot as to what they...

Try the auto parts store. The ones made for outside the car like around the plate are water and salt proofed. You just need a 12v or 6v adapter.

    Refugium Mineral Mud

I've read a ton of stuff about this. When you look closely at the comments of the people that like it, you'll see that their results are about the same as with live sand. Considering the price difference and the extra pain in the butt factor, I think I'd stick with the live sand. I've also seen...

HYDROMETER? piece of crap or best there is?

They may get a bad rap but plastic swing arm hydros are accurate. The scale may have an offset, but the scale itself will be accurate. Ask the lfs what they use. If they use a refractometer, ask them what it reads on their water. Measure their water with the plastic hydro and mark the spot with...

How long to rid tank of Ich?

It is possible for ich to survive in the absence of fish for up to 6 weeks. I would not add anything. Even if there has never been any fish in the lfs coral system, maybe a net that's been in the fish system has.

    Auriga Butterfly

No need to feed him eevrything in it's original form. Like I mentioned earlier, the food you already have is good. Prepared fish foods provide complete nutrition, clams provide clam.
