Maybe because you change them out all the time is why you aren't seeing these behaviours. My husband had a 16 year old eel that was sweet as pie with even other fish when he was younger. As years past he started diving after tusks and large fish. He then got his own tank and again years past...

The shrimp can't get to the deep ones, but they clean off the surface ones. So it keeps the numbers down. I consider them helpful, just not a cure, of course.
