Is this normal clown fish behavior?

Good question. I say keep the lights normal just minimize your intrusion in their space. Every time you walk by or stare in the tank it can scare them. They should be ok. Give them a couple days. Make sure you try feeding them tomorrow too. Thats key with any new fish in the first couple days.

    aptaisa+boiling water= dead

Keep an eye on them. They may be down but not quite out yet. Give it a couple days and youll see :) the clear pointy tentacle brownish/purplish kind can be taken care of by peppermint shrimp. i've had several that have. Love it....

Is this normal clown fish behavior?

Give them a couple days to adjust. Any fish needs a little time to get used to the massive change they are going through. Think about it this way. How would you feel if you moved from cali to ny in 2 days completely upending your life :)

    When will my DSB work?

Do some searches on them. I saw some Sharks talking about this in a recent thread. Beth and Kipass were in them. It takes alot of time for it to start. The goby doesn't help as he is contantly filtering out anything beneficial in the sand. You should really stick to cerith and nassarius...

    Next fish to add?

Oh yeah cardinals..... While i like the bangaii in a sense and a group does look kind of cool they are pretty boring in a sense that they don't move much unless you are feeding.

woah just htoguth of this.. about algae

If the rock stays moist then the organisms can live. It just takes one for them to spread. Keep in mind water unless completely sealed can get in any crevice it wants thus im sure water gets trapped in the rock and keeps these things alive.

why do clowns stay on the bottom of the tank

Ill second that intimidation factor. That can be the only thing i can think of. I've seen that behavior when we get used to get 10 clowns and put them in a 45 gallon at the lfs i used to work at. Two or three of them would stay in the corner on their own....

    Questions about running carbon

Carbon absorbs impurities in the water. Stick it anywhere in your filtration where water will be flowing through it. I wish i knew more as to what it absorbed such as calcium or anthing else beneficial....

    My goniopora!

Is this the same tank with the 6 tangs, stingray, and other fish? More than likely it was knocked over by something in there due to overcrowding..... Was the chunk, skeleton ie hard? Or just skin? Goniopora is an lps and grows a skeleton. If a piece of the skeleton broke off then its...

    Next fish to add?

Kole tang.... If you get the chromis get a pack of them. 3-6.... Any kind of psuedochromis is a nice color. Beware they are agressive. Firefish are nice too. They like the jawfish though love to commit suicide. Keep that in mind when you watch the fish or do anything around the tank. Try...

    goniapora???

One other thing do half doses on the iodine as the instructions say. Its very easy to overdose especially if its not being used. I've heard the only coral that REALLY needs it is Xenia and even then its not necessary as xenia is a weed as it is.

    goniapora???

Goniopora have a good life for a couple months then about 6-12 months they shrivel and die. I personally am of the mind that they aren't getting something in the tanks that they get in the reef. Im also of the mind that it could be their diet. I've read that pods are a part of it as well as...

woah just htoguth of this.. about algae

It comes in off of live rock. What you can't see are all the tiny holes and caves and crevesas in your rock. Any number of organisms and hide out in those caves and come out after some time. Especially algae. Its amazing how regenerative things in the ocean are. The tiniest fragment can...

    Can You Overdose?

Buy a pure calcium source, a alk source, and coralvite/essential elements should take care of everything else. IF your tank gets heavy into sps and lps then you could try using some strontium but otherwise don't worry about it. The coralvite/essential elements wil ltake care of that. Your two...

    starting tank again help

Your hydrometer should read between .02 and .024. Shoot for .024 as its conducive for coralline algae growth. Temp wise shoot for 80.

    starting tank again help

Since you are initially setting up the tank no don't clean the rock off. You may inadvertantly destroy something that you want.... and there won't be anything in your tank for the "unclean" parts to hurt. In the future though you need to make sure the rock you add won't pollute your water. To...

i cant take the algea anymore

Im sure its safe to use but i've of the mind not to add anything to the tank if it can be done naturally.....Especially if you ahve no clean up crew Try getting some nassarius snails and cerith snails to help go through your sand some. You've got alot and it could be harboring things.... And...

why do clowns stay on the bottom of the tank

Its possible it is the water but it doesn't sound like anything is wrong. How often do you turn the water over. Maybe a lack of oxygen in the water because of to many fish? You'd be suprised how bad fish can squabble in 10 seconds.... Even if they look like they are getting along. They can...
