    It will be fine.

    is a hood necessary?

Evaporation keeps your tank cooler. Trapped condensation makes for warmer water.

    looking @ geting new lights

I have a nova extreme T-5 4x54 watt fixture on my 75 and I can keep most anything EXCEPT the really demanding SPS. If I had the 8 bulb version I have no doubt I could keep anything. If you're keeping softies though you probably aren't going to keep a lot of SPS. The Nova Extreme Pro has...

tiny mantis shrimp in coral. what to do?

You could set the coral in a bowl of freshwater for a moment. It won't hurt the coral. Might not be real good for the mantis, but it will get it out. I had one loose in one my tanks. Put an octopus in that tank. Haven't heard any popping since... which is unfortunate cuz I wanted to catch it but...

    Yet Another Cycling Question

If you only read nitrates, then you have established the bacterias which convert the ammonia to nitrite, and nitrite to nitrate, so yeah, 2 more weeks and you should be ready to rock. Probably ready as is, after a water change. The reason moving the sand could cause a spike is because an...

    1 dog vs 2 dogs

Just get them fixed. Problem solved for the most part. Last thing the world needs is more puppies anyway. Scotts nailed it on the head. Dogs need companions of their own species, just like people need human companionship. I love my dogs but they can't hold very good conversations. Between my...

    Yet Another Cycling Question

Sounds like your tank could possibly be stable considering you did add so much already cycled rock. The sand should have caused some sort of spike if it came from your other already established tank though. If you aren't getting ammonia readings or nitrite readings, and you have a tiny bit of...

Any ideas of plants for my tank?

Shaving brushes are tempermental. We kept a few and they sprouted babies and then they all disappeared. Maybe not enough nutrients in the tank to support them. They are very light intensive though, like mangroves.

T5 vs. VHO vs. Metal Halides?

As long as you keep the light-intensive stuff high in the tank I think you'll do fine with what you want. Just get a quality fixture that includes 4 bulbs, individual reflectors for each bulb. Not real sure on the PAR, sorry.

    Fish List

You're asking for trouble keeping those fish with the frogfish. Might work short-term. Eventually its appetite is going to get the best of you, or it might get its eyeballs pecked out. I love frogfish, my favorite fish actually. They look great sitting in a reef, but realistically they're just...

T5 vs. VHO vs. Metal Halides?

I love my T-5's. They don't have the shimmer that MH's have, but they have significantly more power than PC's or VHO's, and they are very economical. The wattage/amount of bulbs you need depends on what you're going to keep in the tank. I was keeping a clam under mine (4-54 watt T-5's in a 75)...

Getting rid of some fish and need help on new tank mates!

Eliminate the aggressive fish from your tank before adding any firefish. They will get beat down fast. Maroon Clowns are VERY territorial. The Coral Beauty might do just fine after the Damsels are removed. Ditch the Tang idea. Your tank is too small, and no sense in keeping one for a few months...
