    The shrimp thing

I agree with you Elan but there does come a point if nothing is actually eating the shrimp it will just continue to rot and prolong things. Once you get the ammonia up and running if you have live rock in the tank it will take care of the ammonia it creates. I would get rid of the shrimp if...

    Tank catastrophe?

I agree with bull. You are messing with too much weight anyways in that 300 to start cutting whats holding it up. If you can move the chiller somehow try that. Or clip fans on the inside to blow out the back of the stand.... Vent your new lights and youll be ok. And i guess If it ain't broke...

    Trigger ID Please

That looks like a pink tail. Definitely not an undulated. Undulated have diagonal strips alont their whole body. The good news if i were going to get a trigger it'd be the pinktail. They are pretty, but as with all triggers can be overly agressive. If you want a more subdued trigger try the...

What type of top do you use on your tank?

I would go topless if i could. If you want to clean your glass all the time then go for it. Its just another impediment to light penetration. Circumstances now don't allow me. I.E. a non waterproof light.

    I cant believe it!

I see what you're talking about SPS. Ill keep my eye out next time i see one. The rate of growth is far outseeing the rate at which they eat. I think they eat algae as well. I've seen them on the glass plenty of times eating away. Is it possible they scrape so hard that they take off the...

    sharks in cold water

It depends on the shark. Your "domestic" tank sharks are more likely reef sharks and thus like warm water. I think they can tolerate a variety of temps but i would keep them warm, around 80.... Look at the sharks in open water typically "cold" water. Great whites, Whale Sharks, and a variety...

    Problems with a Leather

Idea....Its kind of similar to what you have.... When you first bought the coral was it detatched? Or did you turn the rock sideways to place it? Did you attatch it flat long ways to the rock? The reason i ask is because i have a kenya tree coral, similar to leathers and a soft coral. I...

    130 Watt PC

Yes you have enough light. I have the same setup and i'm growing some simple sps's..... If you are really worried stick the frog up near the light. The brain is fine wherever you find a spot for him.

    anemone crab

I would think he may be a minor irritation for a coral. Possibly causing it to stay closed up some?

GSP in hiding, I know it's normal, but....

As he said it could be days. Youll see patches of them open up before others. Give them time and they will all open. My greens took a week at least and even then they were half open and not very full. They will emerge. If you see the colony turn white or start to peel off the rock some then...

    I cant believe it!

Im not entirely sure they eat corraline algae. I have it growing all over my little 12 gallon and its definitely NOT receeding any. I have about 5-10 of those stars in my tank. I have read they mess with corals. Just keep an eye out for him. if you don't notice anything wrong then leave him...

fish out of water...actually fish in overflow

Or you could cut some mesh netting and place it around the top. Thats another way. Rubber band it or weight it or whatever you want....

fish out of water...actually fish in overflow

If he can do it once he can do it again. Shore up any holes he might be able to fit through. Thats about all you can do.

    drilled holes

You need bulkheads that fit the size hole it is. Usually 3/4 or 1 inch. After you install those then you can put a ring of silicon around the edge of the bulkhead if it won't hold water....

    I cant believe it!

Those stars will reproduce readily. They split apart by fission. Its not uncommon to see one with three legs. I have a bunch of them in my tank and while im not sure if they are messing with my polyps i don't think they are. Something else is making them disappear. I would think if they ate...

    Tank catastrophe?

Tank can be run at 80/81 degrees so its not that big of a deal if the temp goes up a little bit. I'm confused why you would build in the stand when the lights are in the canopy? Get some clip fans and hang them on the back. Then vent the canopy a little more. The only reason halides would...

    Tank catastrophe?

Is the side of the stand just paneling or main supports. YOu have main supports in the corners and probably middle parts of your tank. Just be sure not to mess with the main supports of your stand and you should be ok. If you are really worried about it bolster the other parts. And yes...

i just dont know what lighting i should get....i keep getting different info

No it won't kill them persay. But when you intitially get your corals you can't just place them full under the halides. You will have to start them in shady spots on the bottom of the tank and work them up over a couple weeks to where you want them.

    Basics for a Nano?

In a small nano you don't need to have a skimmer to clean your tank with. I can attest to that because i've had a 12 gallon eclipse nano and my water is crystal with just the filter that comes with it. Live rock is your main filtration in a saltwater tank. If you want to run carbon in yoru...

    From Rio to Maxi-jet

Rio's are good for small powerheads but anything big they make is loud. I can attest to that. The rio 50 is nice for small tanks or mixing salt. To change out powerheads you need to match the water pumping rating of your rio to a maxi give or take a couple gallons. Then just hook the...
