    y no pods yet???

Yes, the shrimp is a way to get the cycle started. But you don't want anything to actually decay in there. Until you see 0 ammonia and 0 Nitrite, you should not change water. It delays the cycle completing itself. Once those are at 0, you will have nitrates and then you can change some water...

    Can anyone ID this?

I read advice on getting rid of these. It suggests removing the rock and using a screwdriver or some such instrument to dig the root out of the rock, as well as just removing the bubble. It mentions that some inverts can be helpful, but only with the younger growths of the algae.

    y no pods yet???

Take the shrimp out. :scared: Your ammonia should drop and you should see your nitrite begin to rise. Next your nitrite will fall and your nitrate will rise. You will need to do some weekly water changes to reduce the nitrates. 15% changes of your tank volume twice a week until you see 20 or...

    Last Chromis Standing *Cry*

MHO is that you should be talking to Dogstar, Murph. Lion Crazz about this size tank. I have no recent experience. How established is your system?

    Starter fish

I firmly believe that a freshly cycled tank is still an experiment. My advise would be to start with a hardy, fun fish (easy on the pocket and fun). Clowns are both, and in that size aquarium you have plenty of room to add your tang and your eel down the road. You will have a tankfull of...

Is it a good idea to add pods & worms?

They should appear naturally. As a matter of fact, if you have LR you probably have some now. The pods are hard to see, very tiny. The worms will eventually make themselves known. Try a flashlight after lights out or if you have led's you should be able to see. The worms will come out of the LR...

You dont have to cycle a tank

I apologize for the comment about children feeding fish. It was rude and out of place. Out of character, too, I am sorry. My 20 long has been set up since Sunday night. I used water from my 55 and also LR that has been in my tank for a year minimum, though probably only 10 pounds. 15 minutes...

    Last Chromis Standing *Cry*

I just read your post to my family and we are so sorry! I would try a docile fish. Something from the fairy wrasse family? Something totally unlike a damsel. You could speculate that, being a damsel, you could add a smaller BG chromis who might turn male. But how much saddness can you stand?

    Just Venting...........

I wonder if our acceptance of other cultures is one attribute that has made us the nation of power that we are. I think one can hold so tightly to a point that the point is actually lost. The United States is so diverse from the beginning that it is inspiring to me (1/8 Choctaw) to see that...

    What was your first job?

Modeled perfume in a department store. I can't smell Prince Machiabelli, Raffen'e without having fits. (we really need a hurl smiley) der Weinerschnitzel after that. The Reubens were to die for. Made it to burger cook before I went back to the other.

    Butterflies anyone

xDave I agree, too. These are without exception (?) wild caught fish, and as such do not understand eating dead food from the water. It is that simple. Dogstar, what an amazing photo. Beautiful and healthy Butterfly, it was. Angelgirl, what size is your tank?

    Stocking ???'s

You have quite a few territorial fish there! They (ALL except the chromis) will choose an AREA and set up housekeeping. The gramma and the clowns will take space. The chromis will each need a sleeping spot where NO ONE else has laid claim during the light time. IMO you may have to choose. That's...

What does everyone feed there fish

Mysis shrimp, pellets, Formula2 and brine shrimp (enriched, rinsed). The F2 and brine happen every 3 wks or so. Pellets and mysis 2x a day. Probably works out to 3 to 4 pellets per day per fish and 1/2 cube of mysis per day.
