    If it is a typically flexible rubbermaid container...it will flex enough to enable the use of a bulkhead without leaking...mine hasn't leaked yet....and that is without any silicone..just the rubber gasket which came with the bulkhead.

    A powerhead to ripple the surface and a skimmer to remove the surface scum...left intact it can and probably will interfere with the gas exchange process which keeps your tank oxygenated....

    How far below the surface of the water level are the pumps? Too close and a vortex will occur sucking air into the pump... Ensure your fittings are all tight. Make sure there isn't bubbles in the water in the sump around the pump. Many things can cause this.

    Back off your feeding, reduce the water changes to about 15-20% weekly, and let the calurpa do its thing...Nitrates are a portion of the weeds diet...as it grows...it will consume more. To maintain the NO3 to 0, it will take time to catch up.
