    Sump Questions

In the sump...you will also need something to accomplish the biological filtration. Make an acrylic box with a hole in the top for the overflow tube to enter, and always use a large enough container for your sump to allow for expansion, etc.

    mantis troubles... need advice.

Submerging your bioballs will not kill them. The bacteria contained within consume O2 from either the air, or the water. A wet/dry system is designed to assist the bacteria to get their O2 from the air, thus leaving the O2 concentration in the water alone.

    Sump Questions

When looking for an overflow and return pump...remember you can't have too much overflow versus pump gph. In other words...a 700gph overflow, with a 600gph pump (example only) would be good. As for pump costs...external pumps are normally more expensive then submersible pumps, but, they are...

    live rock pounds per mandarin?

There are also places which sell pod breeding kits and supplies...and a 5.5 gallon tank with a small heater would be pretty cheap and would work great. Then you could import your own pods as they multiply.

    Cure VS. UnCured live rocks

As mentioned prior... Uncured is rock straight from the ocean, usually transhipped to here. Then it is shipped to your house, or somewhere along these lines. This rock contains the best life. Problem is, you will have to cure it yourself, which isn't hard at all. Rock from the ocean has many...

    Wood for Hood

What is the cabinet made out of? Soft maple is somewhat light, strong, nice even grain, (smooth and steady). But...nothing beats solid oak! Listen to your builders. I believe a standard floor is supposed to be able to handle like 500 #'s per square foot or something like that.

What kind of plywood did you use for the shell? Some 1/4 in oak would be nice over the frame...some corner straps running down the corners to hide the edge...

Looks kinda like a bristle worm...if it isn't bothering anything..leave it in there...they eat the crud off the bottom and scavenge elsewhere as well.

    2 survivors!

A few things to consider... The UV sterilizer will kill the protazoa...however...the dwell time has to be extremely slow for it to happen. As for a bigger QT...one can always use a rubbermain box or trashcan as a QT as well. For $10.00 one could have a decent sized 34 gallon QT. Would need to be...

    Installing new carpet.? fishtanks

If it is a standard 75...a 90 should be only like 5-6 inches taller...maintaining the 48x18 base. Also, moving the tank with the sand in it could bring risk of fracturing the bottom glass...as well as putting undo stress on the seams of the tank.

    2 survivors!

Even though your two fish may not display signs of ich...there seems to be ich in your tank. Regardless of how well a fish fights ich off...they are still probably getting small infestations which they are able to fight themselves and continue on with the ich life cycle.

    Installing new carpet.? fishtanks

Put your sand in buckets of their own with water from the tank just to cover the top of the sand...wouldnt recommend this for any lengthy periods of time though. It should be similar to when you buy live sand, it is packed in a bag with some water (from local purchases), and the life within...
