A good way to tell the difference is the white marking on the snout. The one that is easy to keep has white from the mouth to the eye, the other one that does poorly has only white below its eye.

If you go to the GARF.ORG web site and look for agrocrete they have been doing this for years now and use fresh water for about a month to cure the rock (PH spikes to over 9 while curing).
