Worst case is you have a mantis shrimp especially if you start to see fish come up missing. If you can take a look in the hole or go the the tank when the lights are out and see if you can see what it is.

I would consider making the 20 gal a fug instead, you have more than enough rock and sand for the biological process, bioballs just make it happen faster, too fast and spikes your nitrates. If you allow the rock and sand to do there job you will save yourself some water and time. The fuge only...

He was a great fish I really liked him and couldnt believe he died like that. I have a coral banded shrimp, and he was about 3.5 inches long in a 135 combo soft reef, fish, LR tank.
