If your tank was steady at 78-80 before the water change and now at 84, is it possible you have a power head or pump running dry causing heat to build up? Take the glass tops off , if you are woried about something jumping out get some egg crate from home depot and cut to fit !

Are you sure there was nothing in the buckets?

From what i could tell it was Aptasia, and yes it is rooted in the rock and will evade you , that's why the kalk (joes juice works well, it is very heavy and will fall into the spot where the Aptasia is until it reopens and sucks it in! DEAD !

When you have jumpers you have to put some eggcrate over your tank! Sorry for you loss!

Sounds like you dropped your salt level to fast! Try to fix that , it should bring alk, cal and Kh back up on it's own! If not , Once your salt level is back to proper specs then you can look into some additives.

I premix all my water for changes, I have a 35 gal rubbermaid tub, heater ( for the winter) and a power head to keep things stirred. I also rigged up a submersable pump with some plumbing and a hose attachment to transfer the water from the garage to the house. I guess i should take some pics...

Actually Hermits will kill other critters for thier shells! Thats why you need to make sure to have empty shells for them to use. I love it when i see my engineer goby hiding behind a 7 inch high pile of sand , the sand is ofcourse covering up my rics!

Well i did it, Finally! I switched out my old 60 wide to a 75. Limited space so could not go bigger just yet! I had my tank out in the garage, when i came home yesterday it was at 87 degrees! I almost passed out! I only lost my sea hair, All others made it through the boiling process!

same here , it really stays busy on the sand, i use a turkey baster to blow the sand off where I don't want it! Once he gets the sand worked the cloudeness will calm down, BTW watch your filter media, clean it often while this in happening!

Trust me , I know alot of people with Salt water tanks, If they can do them surly anyone can! Most still can't set thier vcr time, but have wonderful tanks!
