I just started to setup a new 55 gallon. I haven't done anything yet just moved it to the room that it will be located. When I set the tank on the stand I noticed that the front corners of the tank are not sitting level on the stand. I took a closer look and it is just the last couple of inches...
It sounds like the lighting setup that you are getting is a power compact. Make sure before you get it that it's at least a PC or VHO. If that is the case then that should be adequate lighting for some mushrooms, and maybe a leather of some sort. I don't have alot of experience with corals...
Beth,
That is a nice setup. The reason that it's so pricey is that it has the enclosed housing, Battery backup, and the auto transfer switch. All of this allows the system to automatically switch your power over in the event of a powerloss. The honda that your looking at does not have any of...
How much lighting do you have? That will be the determining factor for the types of corals. Mushrooms seem to be good starter corals. Most mushrooms don't need intense lighting and are hardy. As far as fish you could add a percula clown, royal gramma, and maybe a bengaii cardinal. Look for fish...
Do you have any type of cleanup crew like hermits, or crabs. If so they will most likely take care of the shell for you. I normally leave it in the tank and within a couple of days its gone.
I lost track after about $3000. Just picked up my next project yesterday. Another 55 thats going to be a reef. Havn't even got the skimmer, LR, or LS, and I've spent around 300.
If you want to have it tied into the house then you will need to get a certified electrician to do this. Most typical setups have the generator wired with a switch box that you can flip to change where the electrical feed is coming from. Also your local power companies have regulations regarding...
Tangs in general are hard to keep. They stress really easy. I have tried 3 tangs and have not been able to keep any alive. I've decided that is one fish that will not be in my tank for a long time to come. It sounds as though he may not have liked what you where feeding him. Whenever I get a new...
One suggestion. Skip the damsels and use a piece of raw shrimp. It will start the cycle process faster than the damsels, and will not kill fish durring the process. Also once the damsels are in its a pain to get them out. Also if you add LR or LS this will start the cycle process as well.
jeffandnance,
You must be some of the lucky ones that don't have frequent power outages. I have about 1 every 6 months. When el nino hit I was without power for a few days. Never again. Lost everything in the fridge. At that time I only had an outdoor pond, and it did O.K. without power. Now...
I hadn't thought about that, but it sounds like a good idea. I plan on adding a lionfish into the tank in a few weeks. How big do the mollies get? The lion may make a meal out of them.
The main thing to think about here is that this is a temporary home for these fish. They don't normally stay in the LFS for more than a few days. Also I see a lot of these fish are under a great deal of stress in these tanks. They loose there share of fish you just may not see it.
I have had this problem before. My solution was to adjust the level of the water in the tank. If the water is to low or high it creates the bubbles. Since your still cycling I assume that you have no fish in the tank. Try playing with your water level and see if that helps.
I know that most people believe that these are hard to keep, but I've had mine for a few months now. I feed him a few times a week. Currently I feed him pieces of shrimp, silversides, and scallops. What else should I be feeding him?
I like the fact that it's liquid cooled. I know what the temps can be like down there. Also if you want I can find out what the dealers cost is on that unit. May help when you get to the bargaining table. One of my partners owns a honda dealership here in CA. He's done well in the last few years...
One last thing is you should also add supplements for the LR. Calcium should be kept around 400ppm. I monitor this about ounce a month to make sure the calcium levels are correct.
I placed an order on a Thursday and received it the following Tuesday. They do not ship on Fridays so it went out the following shipping day "Monday". The shipment was well packed, and everything was in good health upon arrival. I'll order again from the u-build it as soon as my 55 gallon is...
