    Yet another RO/DI question

Mine is rated at 35 gallons per day, or about 1 1/2 gallons per hour. It actually filled a 50 gallon trash in just over day. Unless you'll be staring at it the whole time, I'd make sure what whatever container it goes into has a float valve. There is one alternative, though. Rig the container...

good primer on RO/buffer water/making salt water?

Anyone know a good source of info on procedures and recipes for making buffered water for top offs and replacement salt water? How long to "age," those sorts of things? I have my RO setup going and have 50 gallons of water sitting there, but I'm a little unsure of myself now. Can you do things...

    Bigger tank w/out reinforcing floors

If you have access underneath to reinforce, I can't think of any reason not to. It's not expensive and not difficult. OTOH, I have thought about a form of reinforcement above the floor. What if you were to build a platform with a lot of 2x4s on end with a sheet or two of good plywood over and...

Thanks. Say, what exactly are the parts that sting? All the tentacle/fin things, or just certain ones?

Do lions sting the other fish, or do the others just know enough to stay away? Thanks.

    plumbing canister filter w/ sump?

Have a 150 with a Megaflow sump. I'd like to add a canister filter, maybe even one with a built in UV. Is it better to upgrade the return pump and plumb the canister into the return, so that all water is filtered, or run a separate closed loop in and out of the sump to the canister? The first...

actinic or 10k lights worse for algae growth?

I have a 150 with compact 2x 96 watt actinics and 2x 96 watt 10k. Which lights promote algae growth more? The 10k seem much brighter, but I have no idea how that matters. Starting to accumulate brownish algae where the light hits the rock. Thanks.

    topoff water

A similar idea would be to put a small pump in the top off container, then put it on a timer to run when needed, as long as your needs are consistent. I have some timers that allow you to choose 15 minute increments off and on all day, with little tabs for each increment. There are others that...

    absolute quietest chiller?

I'm on a quiet crusade, but need a chiller. I want to drop a fowlr 150 from about 81 degrees to 78. Already have tops open and fans, and not running all lights at once. I'm thinking of putting the chiller in a separate well ventilated box I'd build sitting next to the cabinet. Anyway, regardless...

ASM skimmer noise driving me nuts

I'm about to ditch the entire tank unless I can get a skimmer that's quieter. I have a 150 with a Megaflow sump, using an ASM G3 skimmer in the sump. The pump for it is loud, and the air sucking noise at the air intake hose can be heard throughout the whole house. Plus, it's darn hard to keep...
