getting a 115g saltwater tank. need help?

Well first we would need to know what your plans are for the tank. Do you plan a Fish Only, or a Reef set up? The equipment will work for both and alot of this is basic. RO/DI unit - For your water, you can get at Fish store, but you are taking a chance. You don't know when the last time they...

    White spots on tank glass

Sounds like coral line alge. Use a cleaner magnet to clean your glass everday. Also get one of those glass scrappers. It is a little razor blade thing. This will scrap it off fairly easily if it isn't left to build up to much.

    She died. What happened?

did you quarintine her? She could have been carrying a parasite. A fish can look healthy and swim around just fine. and then the parasite will get the best of them. A few years back I had gotten a few fish. Did the 2 hour acclaimation, and put them in the tank. About two weeks later they...

    Cleaning of Display pieces

I am not saying bleach is wrong, I would just be leary of the color fading. I use vinagar. Just put them in vinagar water and let them soak for a few hours. Then use a soft bristle brush to scrub them clean.

    New to saltwater. Need answers!

I checked out your picture of your tank, and I have never seen colored dead coral. I am not saying it isn't. just never seen. Which lead me to a few questions. Is the coral real coral skeletons that have been dyed? If they have been dyed, then you should make sure that it is safe for a...

What happens if you add fish b4 cycleing?

Sounds like a LFS rushing a new hobbiest and telling them a bunch of garbage. Do not believe everything the LFS tells you. They make a living by selling you stuff, and alot of them, not all, could care less if the fish lives or dies, or how much money you waste getting your tank done. That...

    Evaporation?

you do not want to "slow down your evaporation" That evaporation is what help keep the tank healthy. that is how it gets the build up of gas out of the tank. Either get an auto top=off or check your sump twice a day and add as needed.

    Some help with mixing water

When mixing your saltwater, you will need a refragmeter, or a hydrometer. As with most things, the directions are not always 100% on target. So even after you mix the salt in the water. You still need to check to make sure it is at the level you need. Most prefer to keep their salinity...

this is plastic, but designed to be near the lights. I have a coral life PC laying right on top of the eggcrate over my sump. It has been there a very long time. The eggcrate hasn't been affected at all by the light. It hasn't even made it change color. The eggcrate over the top of my tank...

Was told this at my LFS is this true?

Baking soda will raise your alk. I use it all the time. BUT, BUT, this is very important. DON'T just get baking soda and dump some in your tank. You need to test your tank, and see where all your levels are. Then I go to a speacial web site. post my level there and it will tell me...

    Cleaning Glass on New Tank

Vinagar is all you will need. Save the money, you will need it for other things in this hobby. Why spend $5 for a small bottle of cleaner, When you can get a huge jug of vinagar for about $2 bucks. Vinagar will clean almost anything that could be on or in the tank.. I would say anything...
