    octopus from SWF

The female dies. The young are planktonic, they float in the water eating smaller organisms until they get large enough to sink to the bottom. Then then become benthic. No one as far as I know has been able to tank raise small egged octopus.

    octopus from SWF

This octopus is very small. The tank is a 120. I have just moved it to a 50. I now have a young O. briareus in the 120. I only have 3 fish. I have gotten rid of all the rest.I have a clown pair in a seperate tank. You should not keep fish with them. The fish will either become a meal or they can...

    octopus from SWF

gmford, that is too bad. Most LFS workers don't have a clue, sorry that happened to you. I just got home from a 2 day stay in the hospital. I got a nasty infection in my finger, noticed it the day after a water change. It could be from my tank or unrelated but it was scary. I have recovered...

    TOADSTOOL HELP!

I don't think FWE is as bad as some are making it out to be. I tried a mandrin, wrasses, always kept peppermints in all my tanks, nothing touched them. If you follow the directions, siphon as many as you can before hand, and have a large water change ready you should be fine. I always repeat in...

    Oxygen!

My 2 cents even though some of this was already addressed...if you have a protein skimmer and have some movement on the surface of the water, you will be fine. One of the problems some of us have is the micro bubbles that are produced by our skimmers. I keep 2 airstones in my tank (I keep...

    Maroon Clown Fish wont eat

Did you treat your fish w/copper in quarantine or the main display? It is dangerous even small amounts can kill your inverts and beneficial bacteria.

    octopus from SWF

I purchased this O. hummelincki or caribbean two spot from Saltwaterfish.com. I thought I'd share it here. It has been in my tank for four days so far. It is very active and eating both frozen and live food. Unfortuantely I am leaning towards female. I hope she dosen't brood soon, a common...

    Decorator Crab??

I got a bunch of these when I ordered crabs for my octopus. They can be very destructive to corals. They sniped off chunks of my softies and attached them to their backs. They destroyed my xenia, some zoas and leathers. Very cool find though.

Can my tank support an Anemone?

You don't necessarily need metal halide for an anemone in a tank that size. Amazing advancments are being made with LEDs lighting. I know a guy who had a 250 softie tank and 500 sps reef (with many anemones, bta and carpets) all lit using LEDs. I have 2 150 w. units of T5 light over my 120...

    should i be worried?

You should pick up "Clownfishes" by Joyce D. Wilkerson. In her book she explains that not only will mixed species bond, mate and lay eggs but their offspring will be viable. Every fish has it's own personality but I would not say the pairing is doomed. Read up on the subject, get the opinion of...

    Octopus O. Vulgaris

This is El Diablo. It is always luck of the draw when ordering an octopus. I had ordered an O. briareus and received an O. vulgaris. A species which get considerably larger and was fast out growing my tank. I set up a 120 just for her. Here are are a couple photos. Transferring her into the new...
