    Is my cycle already over?

I did something really similar, when I started my 125 about half the rock and part of the sand came from my established 75. I figured I would try the raw shrimp method and tested every day. In 9 days my ammonia and nitrites had already spiked and were both at zero, and my nitrates were at around...

    baffles dont fit (with pics)

I had the exact same thing happen to me. You can fix them. Go to Lowes and get a glass cutter and trim them up yourself. That's the easiest way. And I would think twice about going back to whoever you got the glass from. You can in fact grind them down, I did one of mine myself with an angle...

How Often Do You Change Your Filter Socks?

I've never replaced my filter socks, I just clean them. Mine tend to overflow about every 10-14 days, and I just toss them in the washing machine and run them through the rinse cycle. They come out clean as a whistle. Personally I wouldn't put soap, bleach or anything else in the washing...

    algae sheets

I had the same thing happen, my tangs were scared of the clip because it was something new as was the algea sheets. I started putting a piece of a sheet on top of a rock then another rock on top of the sheet in order to hold it down. The tangs soon found it (since they are grazers). I did this...

DIY question! It's a surprise for my husband!

I don't mean to sound discouraging, but I don't see how this is going to work with the way you have it drawn out (if you plan on having the tank where the bottom is above your television). You state that your closet is 65 inches tall, and if the light switch is say 35 inches off the floor then...

    How many fish??

I can't really respond to your tang question, but as far as your blenny goes, you said you feed twice a day but not what you feed. You can try the seaweed as lion_crazz suggested, but mine would never touch the stuff. But my lawnmower blenny will eat about everything else that my other fish eat...

Requesting some info on some fish

I have had my Auriga Butterflyfish for about a month now and really like him. He eats flake and pellets right along with my tangs. The only problem I have had is that he's nipping at my curly q anemone and has taken some of the tenticles off. He doesnt mess with the condy, just the curly q. I...

    tangs

Are you sure that's only a 300 gallon tank? I've never seen a tank with a couch in it before. And damn, there is someone living in your tank too. Are you sure it's not a couple of thousand gallons? j/k

    Compatable Shrimp?

I don't know about the scarlet because I don't have one, but the peppermint would be fine. In one tank I have a cleaner, cb and two peppermints, in the other I have a cleaner, two peppermints and a camelback. One thing about the peppermints though, if you want them for viewing they are not the...

    Home Made Sumps

As the others have said it's not hard to make your own sump. If you are going to make your baffles out of glass, instead of cutting your own do what I did and just buy your glass from Lowe's and they will cut them for you.

All in one Sump build question

There is nothing wrong with your design. It's pretty much the same design as WorrBaller's.

All in one Sump build question

WorrBaller, yes that would work. And by lowering it 6 inches you are gaining a little over a third of a gallon more water before the water stops flowing to your return area. Something else you might think about is since you won't have anything coming over the top into your DT you 'could' cover...

All in one Sump build question

Let me see if I can explain this with words since I can't draw it out. If you have 10 inch baffles then the water has to rise 10 inches in your intake chamber to get to your fuge, then it has to rise another 10 inches to get out of your fuge, and another 10 inches to get to your return chamber...

All in one Sump build question

So six inches high will be enough for the fuge? Well the thing is you can make them higher which will give you more room in fuge, but your return section will empty out due to evaporation quicker. So it's kind of a trade off on which you want, more water or more room in your fuge. Removing the...

All in one Sump build question

You can build a sump/fuge out of any size tank you want. But you guys aren't reading this guys post correctly. He's not building a sump out of a 25 gallon tank, he's building a sump into a 25 gallon tank.
