    Painting a room?

we've done it. plastic tarp over the whole tank. no problem. of course you may not be able to get everywhere behind the tank which could be a problem if the room is changing colors. If its not too close to the wall a long roller can probably get behind it.

Pseudochromis and a cleaner shrimp question?

some will and some wont. I watched a so called "safe" fridmani kill and begin to eat a cleaner shrimp right at the LFS and a sixline wrasse in the same tank joined the feeding after the orchid did the dirty work. I've owned that sixline for well over a year now and the only reason I dont own the...

How much flow for Acro's & other SPS????

either bounce the powerhead's flow off the glass/liverock or let the flow of multiple powerheads crash into each other (or purchase vortechs or wavemakers). before I got two nano tunze I just used a single way oversized propeller style powerhead (sureflow modded maxijet). this created great...

    New Valida Colony

my fastest growing acro by far (although my ora roscoe's blue which I believe is a tenius is giving it a run for the money). I really like tri color validas. Super hardy(as far as acros go), super fast growth, inexpensive and good looking. here's mine about 4 months ago...

    Acro's and Nitrates

phosphates are much worse than nitrates. some people with no nitrates actually try to bump them up to about 5ppm theorizing it correlates with just the enough nutrients to keep them well nurished without too much sacrafice of water quality (I dont subscribe to that as zero nitrates and heavy...

My mated clown fish have a lot babies

you generally remove the rock, magfloat (or whatever removable you can get lucky enough for them to lay eggs on) and move them to a dedicated/specialized nursery tank. there you feed them live rotifiers which you have harvested by growing live phytoplankton and you pretty much have a little mini...

    green dust

its algae and it seems your bioload and filtration/medias are acceptable. Honestly by now the tank should be well daily glass algae dusting. How often do you do water changes and have you tested your water source for phosphates? what kind of lighting (pc or MH jbj) and whats the light cycle...

    Trigger attacking inverts?

triggerfish are purpose built to feed specifically on shelled crustasceans. they arent natural piscivores (they may eat fish but they dont hunt for them) and only a few are plantivores. it's whats for dinner! crabs, shrimp, lobster, mantis ect is pretty much ALL they eat naturally. Blue throats...

Dead pink square Anthia please help

square spot anthias dont need a reason to die in captivity, they arent particularly hardy also they can do well once acclimated and under ideal conditions (low lighting or lots of cover in well lit tanks, lots of flow, reef, clean water, lots of food....which when talking clean water and lots of...

Will 3x250 HQI ushio lighting enough?

the ice caps are average. the lumenbrights are very good I just didn't know the came in double ended like you want to run (I mentioned the good ones above I am positive come in 250w double ended configuration). there are more reflector choices in single ended mogul lamps.

ZEOvit Reefer's Best Coral Reef Salt?

your response has lost focus on what the original poster has asked and you seem hell bent on making a point that salt is salt (as if thats not obvious NaCl is NaCl). Reefers Best (like every other aquarium salt "MIX") is more than salt, its salt AND other elements combined (hence "MIX"). you...

ZEOvit Reefer's Best Coral Reef Salt?

well salt definately isn't salt but no its not worth the mark up. salt isn't salt. some have ca as low as 360ppm while others are close to 600ppm. same goes for mg, carbonates (alk), k, chloride content ect ect. Your job is to find the salt with the parameters that work best for you and how much...

    RO/DI vs. Protein Skimmer?

these are unrelated. protein skimmers remove dissolved organics. RO/DI removes mostly inorganic solids that MUST be removed before using. the choices are either keep using the nearly $1/gallon of distilled (you can buy RO water for MUCH cheaper BTW though its only as good as the maintenence...

Will 3x250 HQI ushio lighting enough?

250w is plenty of light regardless of kelvin (yes including 20k, theres alot more to growth than PAR). You should be focusing on reflectors for PAR and coverage then use the bulb that looks best. You can easily double the PAR using a well developed reflector over common units without any other...

    Larger Cleaner Shrimp Bad Influence?

you just have lazy cleaners. they dont need anything to clean to clean. I use to stick my FINGER by them daily and they would go right to work cleaning perfectly clean and foreign to them fingers. and cleaners dont just clean parasites, dead/injured flesh, debri, slime ect. they will clean...

False Percula Clownfish vs Sixline Wrasse

I guess it depends on the wrasse. My false perc is clearly bigger than my sixline and I had a spotted hawk that was clearly bigger than my sixline as well. My false perc isn't crazy about the sixline either but my sixline is just to savy for the false perc to intimidate. She charges at him but...
