    Peeping Tom

I love my LED lights. You can see the coolest/strangest stuff at night. Turn off all the lights in your house and let your eyes and imagination run free. I was just checking on my new red marble starfish cause he rarely moves during the day. He doesn't move but I finally see my coral banded...

    Acclimation for inverts/fish???

Dogstar, thanks so much for explaining. I now have a crystal clear picture of what to do in the future. Can't believe it was so simple. Can't wait to try it out but I'll have to wait...LFS won't get anything imported for 2 more weeks, the temps in Cali have been so hot lately they can't ship...

    Acclimation for inverts/fish???

Dogstar, can you explain a tad more. first float bag to equal temp, correct? then (dump?) bag in (empty?) bucket drip water to which level? emptying how much water every 30 minutes? I see the concept but it's a little foggy. Do you tilt the bucket so the water is deeper in the bucket? Sorry I'm...

    quick question

Please do some research before you start, this way you'll be prepared for what's to come. As you can see on the abbreviations page, FOWLR stands for Fish only with Live Rock...meaning no corals are added to the tank. As a beginner, I would suggest leaving the corals out until you gain some more...

    Pinpoint PH monitor

So that answers another question, where do you place it. Any reason you placed the probes in your fuge instead of your DT?

    Starfish Question

Wow, those are some awesome looking stars. I was reading one of my "Aquatic" books the other day and read that a certain fish or invert feeds soley on starfish. I'm sorry but I can't remember what it was. Just make sure whatever aggresive livestock you add that they don't feed on starfish.

    Acclimation for inverts/fish???

I am having trouble "drip acclimating". Call me stupid but don't you need a little help via gravity to start/maintain the drip? If I place the bag which a new fish or invert comes in inside the DT for temp acclimation how can I "drip", if I take water from my tank and place it above the bag it...

    List for 55 long tank

your trigger might eat smaller fish and at its adult size will be too large for a 55g tank never heard of a green chromis...do you mean 2 blue and 2 blue green reef chromis? IMO I would get an odd number of whichever you choose or get 2 of one species and 3 of the other if they all school...

Question on a Tank & More

IMO, build your stand around your sump. I bought my tank and stand, went to set it up and my protein skimmer was too tall for the stand...had to return stand (pissed off LFS) and built my own. At least make sure you have room under a stand if you buy a pre-built one to accomodate your sump...

    Filtration for 55g reef

one thing i noticed is your baffles are backwards/upside down. do a little research and you'll find some really good sump setups. 10g is pretty small, can you fit your trickle filter setup and skimmer and return pump all in there?

    how to feed frozen?

I saw a "feeding ring" at the pet store the other day. it has a suction cup to keep it from floating around. it basically keeps the food at the top of the water inside the ring so your powerheads can't blow it all over the place.
