What Test Kits Do I Need?

I would recommend a calcium test kit as well. I have tried several different kits and so far all appeared to be about the same.

    dottyback

I missed the part about the 29 gallon tank. That may be a bit small for the combination of fish. The marron and bicolor might get territorial in that small of a tank. This could lead them to be aggresive to any new additions.

    dottyback

I have a royal gramma and he seems to be a pretty peaceful fish. My lawnmower blenny used to chase him around so I moved the blenny over to another tank. He may have hid in the rock because either the maroon or bicolor could have been aggresive towards him. What size is your tank? How big are...

    Royal Gramma Question

I was just thumbing through a book Marine Fishes by Scott Michael and he mentions that there a 2 species of the Royal Gramma. The diffrence being that one has yellow stripes over the eyes, and that this species can be kept in groups. I've never heard this before and was wondering if anyone else...

    RO/DI?

Hey thanks for the info. This would really help with topping off my koi pond and fountains outside. Durring the summer I've been keeping a 55 gallon barrel full to top off everyday. Alot of extra work. I usually have to add 5-10 gallons a day outside. My inside tanks I normally top off every 2-3...

    RO/DI?

Thanks for the info and the link. Read the link and they had some good info. I will probably need to invest in one of these units.

    RO/DI?

I've seen a few posts concerning the use of these units as opposed to tap water. The question I have is does it remove the chlorine as well? My tap water has high levels of calcium, chlorine, and floride. I've been adding chlorine remover and letting the water sit with a power head, and heater...

    What Happened?

I took the coral beauty and moved him to the q-tank. He didn't last long in there. The remaining fish are doing fine. Upon inspection of the coral beauty I noticed that it looked as though he had abbrastions on his skin. Little red patches on the skin.

    Stocking suggestions?

I had a coral beauty and a naso, but I think my blenny is pretty aggressive and stressed them to the point they just couldn't handle it. I've been considering removing the LR and capturing the blenny and taking him back to the LFS. I do like him, but he does seem to be very aggressive. I had him...

    Stocking suggestions?

The newest tank that I have is an 80 gallon eclipse. I currently have 1 bangaii cardinal, and 1 "I believe aggressive" sailfin blenny. I have 110lbs. LR and about 160lbs LS. I am upgrading the lighting to 2 55watt pc's. I am going to add 1 maroon clown. What other suggestions for colorfull...

    what happend

My anemone does this from time to time. The 1st time it happend I though it was dying and ran down to the LFS to ask them. They told me that something could have stressed it out, or could be a lighting issue. I keep a close eye on him and he still does this from time to time. Usually in the...

    What Happened?

Just another thought. Are there any diseases that only affect angels and tangs, or are they just more easily stressed out then most other fish?

    What Happened?

The tank has been up and running for 3 months. When the naso gets stressed they turn almost black and get a couple of white spots. Then he started to swim with head ponting up and tail pointing down. The reamining fish are doing great. Nothing noticable. My theory is that my blenny may have been...

    What Happened?

I have an 80 gallon tank 120lbs LR 160lbs ls. Currently have a sailfin blenny and bengaii cardinal that are still doing fine. I added my naso who had been in q-tank for 3 weeks with no problem. Seemed ok at 1st then just today stressed out then went to the bottom of tank and died? Also now my...

    green film alge

From what I've been told the green algae is a sign of good tank conditions. It took several weeks for it to appear in the tank. Of course you'll want to keep it under control. I have turbo snails in my tank and they keep all the algae off of the rocks.

    cycling with a prawn

That should be more than sufficient to start the cycle. Give it a few days and you will see your ammonia spike. I used 1 shrimp to start my 80 gallon cycle.

    Naso????

Hey bigred did you get that fish from Larry? I got a Naso from him and so far it has been doing good. I just moved him from my q-tank to my main tank. He looked a little stressed at 1st but has calmed down. They do seem hard to acclimate.

    Eclipse tank

I think that I will eventually scrap the hood and redo the filtration and lighting. Until then I'll just cut the hood and add a skimmer. Right now all I have is FO with LS/LR. I may leave it as is and just do a 55 gallon reef later. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to read a little more on the DIY hood, and the sump setup.
