Possible to have LR and LS w/ a wet/dry filter?

^^ Kris that is good advice. I have certainly been guilty of messing with things just because I wanted to, not because I have needed to and a lot of times all hell has broken loose. Saltyjay, You think you have plenty of rock to handle your bio-load, but what you are seeing doesn't support that...

How do you clean a sand bed?

I have one more question for anyone out there. Is there any special way I need to change from cc to sand, or can I just take the cc out and put the sand in all at once. I don't want to make any major mistakes.

SCUBANUT - To play it safe I would keep some of that CC around...

    Drilling a glass aquarium

^^^ I heard the same thing about 10 gal. -- Ameriglas has good prices on bits. I did recently ask my old boss how we used to do this. He said we used a diamond core bit and went slow. We used to use a glass dam to help keep the bit cool. If you can't find those, substitutes work like using...

Is 5.3 watts per gallon too much.

I don't think that is too much. Some people with stonies even go up towards 10w/gal. You did the right thing by moving it higher. I had a 30 long with a 150w mh. I kept mine high. You can see it in my sig. Keep the mh. :)

    Hydrothrustor QV variable speed pump?

he's using that pump to run water through a PC chip cooling device.

That's whack. I am surprised I don't see a Tesla coil running in the background. :D Hey teog, If you could elaborate on why they were [hr] that would be cool. Did they break? Like I said in my first...

    Hydrothrustor QV variable speed pump?

This is from a 1993 thread: I have had two of the QVs on my 220 gal for many years. They seem to last about 3 years at 400 gph at 6' head. They need to be oiled every 6 months. They accumulated dust should be blown out at that time to aid cooling. I recently replaced one with an energy efficient...

    Hydrothrustor QV variable speed pump?

Hey Wolf, I haven't heard the hydro come up in a long time. I almost bought one eight years ago or so, but I heard somewhere that they have quality control issues with them. So I didn't bite. I was always attracted to them b/c of that speed dial. I thought that was a great idea. Recently, I...

    Topic: water changes. Why?

Uel, I think it may be your massive water changes that are throwing everything out of whack leading to the stress that causes something to die everytime you do a water change. Just a guess.

    off topic-cloned fish

No you are not. But I wouldn't know a petri dish if it hit me in the face. Anyway, I would prefer farm-raised to clones. Clones seem kinda 'fake' to me. Like I might as well buy the bubbling plastic fish aquarium from Walgreens or something. But Wamp is on to something with Godzilla. <img...

This is Monty. He is quite a character. Somebody I work with was giving him away, so I took him. Make a beach for him in a 37 gallon tank out of egg-crate and window screening. The pump and heater are inside the beach. (Anyone know what kind of turtle he is? I have a hard time matching him with...

    30gall -to small for reef???

Is a 30 gallon too small for reef?

No. My last one was a 30 long. In a country like mine-Asia Pacific (all summer) would all round 80F temp in the tankl too hot for reef?

Is that with aquarium lights on? Either way, it is pushing it, I would look at DIY...

    Topic: water changes. Why?

I'm sorry, I do not follow you. Are you saying that there are synthetic (salt water) salts that have iodine and all that engineered in them?

Yes, that is what I am saying. ~ Sorry for the late reply, I crashed out last night. These links were given to me a while ago by broomer5...
