    LPS are dying...

i honestly dont do as many water changes as i should. But in 4 years Ive never had a problem with that. I can usually tell the water by how xenia acts-- currently its pulsing like crazy. I dont think I have flatworms...I looked in my tank and havent seen any on the corals. The only thing...

    Lighting ?

depending on where you place the corals in your tank you should be able to keep any type of coral. For example...you'll want your SPS, Clams strictly in the middle where you MH will be. The lower light corals such as mushrooms, zo's well all softies and most LPS can be kept under the PC's...

    LPS are dying...

its been a few months and im still having trouble with my LPS. I have a few brains and a frogspawn that werent looking good. Not looking good meaning that they were retracted showing their skeleton. I attribute part of that due to old bulbs. However, i replaced my bulbs and one of the brains...

    LPS are dying...

All my LPS in my tanks are receding but all other corals are fine (softies). My brains are heavily showing their skeleton and I have noticed a greenish looking algae on the branches of the frogspawn. Could this be a bacteria thats only spreads to LPS?? If so, can this be treated with a...

    Coral Problems...

For the past month or so my LPS corals have been acting very strange...frogspawn retracted, 3 brains are looking terrible. Even my anenomes are very small. My softies are all doing fine...zoos are spreading, xenia is growing like crazy. I thought it was my lightbulbs so i replaced 2 and still...

    Hydroid Problems...

These things are driving me crazy. They are spreading throughout my tank and I cant find a way to get rid of them. Is there an effective removal, something I can put into my tank? If I try to manually remove them I wont be able to see the ones on the underside of my rock and they'll continue...

    Ammonia Issues...Please Read

what kind of test kit are you using? Are they old, expired? Unless something has died in your tank it shouldnt have any ammonia. Ive seen Bionic change the PH but not add ammonia to the tank. Are your fish acting weird?? If you do have ammonia present it should break down into...

    dumb ? time

it really depends. If the rock was not cured you should see some dieoff and an ammonia spike in your tank. Next you'll see the ammonia break down into nitrites and then the nitrite break down into Nitrates. After the ammonia and Nitrite are at zero it is safe to add slowly to your tank. If...

    Blood Shrimp Died

I had one for about 3 years and it also mysteriously died. Everything else in my tank was doing great, along with my cleaner shrimp. I just attributed it to old age...who knows how old it was when I bought it. HTH, Mark

    starting all over

i wouldnt buy a sump with a built in skimmer. Most if not all dont compare to stand-alone skimmers. Get lots of live rock...perferably 2 lbs per gallon of water. That will give you enough filtration to totally eliminate a mechanical filter. Mark

fliter or let the sand, coral and inverts do the rest?

go with lots of live rock and a quality skimmer...you really dont even need a DSB. I know my next setup will be a bare bottom or maybe 1/2" for asthetics. Mark

    Top or Not

if you are talking about glass tops, absolutely not. Unless you have an eel or fish that like to carpet surf there is no need for one. In Texas I dont need anymore heat being trapped in my tank.

    Type of coral question

all softies and LPS. I'd stay away from SPS and clams as they really need MH to thrive. You might hear stories of certain SPS and clams being kept under VHO or PC but for novice tank keepers I say stick with LPS (frogspawn, hammer, brains, etc) and soft corals (mushrooms, zo's, xenia, leather...

    Invert/coral suggestions please

i honestly dont see how the temp will go down after adding MH. You might have to start looking for a chiller. With that lighting you can keep just about any coral. You'll want your SPS getting the most intense light. True clams dont move as for attaching corals some use epoxy. I know lots...

    thursday is the day

you'll need to cure the rock again unless you want your tank recycling. Put it in a rubbermaid with a powerhead for circulation and a skimmer if you have one. Test the water...you'll probably see some ammonia b/c of the die-off. Change the water periodically until your ammonia tests are at 0...
