i AM RUNNING THE 250 XM 10000k's and I am happy with them. The color is phenomenal compared to the Iwasaki's tht I had and my corals and anenome's are happy too. Midwest reefer... the glass around a MH bulb is tempered I believe. I regularly splash mine inadvertently and have never had one break.

It looks like baby serpent stars. There is also some other kind of star that stays small. I have those living in my live rock as well, and what you photographes is all I have ever seen mine do.

use two float switches in series for asafety margin. If one fails, the other one will work (hopefully!)

I also would recommend the MH from the get go. By the way, why are you waiting for your QT to cycle before you get any fish? The Idea of a QT is to keep the fish you have from catching something from a new one. But if I had no fish would bypass the QT for the first batch.

I wouldn't worry. They molt as they grow, maybe yours is done growing.

If you are handy at all you could build a canopy for you tank. Or, perhaps a free standing bracket (like a coat rack) with a bar over the tank to hang the pendant lights from.
