all levels went up good and came back to 0 before i put the corals in. i have a test kit for almost everything and all levels are right on. lighting is 150w HQI MH and 2 65W actinics and 2 moonlights. i asked a lfs what it was doing and they said they do that when they are healthy and happy...

you can get either a phosphate removing filter pad, or a phos-reactor, both are supposed to reduce phosphates. but nix the tap water, i have only heard bad things about tap water.

very true every tank is totally different. and hell i shouldnt even be giving any advise at all, i am wayyy too new at this. the rock i had did have some die off on it, that caused the initial ammonia spike (i guess). my levels spiked good but came down fast. nitrites went to around 4.0...

my tank is only 16 days old and the few corals i have in there are open much wider in my tank then they were in the lfs. it shouldnt take 2 to 3 months before you can put stuff in there. unless it takes that long for the water quality to become good enough for you.

i know i'm new but i havent seen a brain do this before. the other night it did it too and was more of a perfect semi-circle....can this be why they call them brain coral? the tank is only 16 days old and i am wondering if it is freaking out.

i wouldnt say loaded with live rock. this tank is only 16 days old.

actinics will bring out the "glow effect" in some corals.

30 days....thats nuts.....if you have enough fresh live rock and a fuge with a deep sand bed you can cycle quickly, especially if the tank is big enough. if levels are zero....levels are zero. just dont add too much too fast.

if you get the 24" and would need legs, it would give you distance between the light and water. if you went with 30" i am guessing you would just set it on top of tank? not getting the distance between water and light? but i would wait for other advise. i am still too new.

would having something like that cause issues for critters moving around in live sand....wouldnt they be confined to the size of each square?

i dont know much, being so new and all. but i would try to figure out what happened to your tank that KILLED everything before i started another one. plus you might want to rethink doing this if you didnt go get a timer for your lights before you left for 3 days.
