I just finished hte basic build on my hood for my 180g SPS reef......all i have to do is paint black and add the huge door on... its 6 250w DE and in every group of two there is a 10k and 20k AB bulb and four fans (plus a 1/3 chiller and the sump is in basement so good cooling) heres the link to...

if he is kepping sps.....which i don't recommend because of your experience (maybe start with LPS then go to SPS) then I would recommend the 250w.......if keeping just LPS and Leathers i still recommend it....if keeping softies like xenia and LPS like brain then i would go with the 150w....but a...

you also need a ballast......again i would go with 250w DE bulbs do a google search for Marine Depot they have them.......i would go with a 14k or a 20k bulb and not suplement with PC's but that is what i like.....so you can make your disicion Brad

i like my sand sifting star.....and on real reefs there really is not to much fuana in the sand......but that is near the sps flats....moving towards the lagoons and more nuitrient rich sand then the fuana starts to proliferate......if you ever gone diving you will see that there isn't much life...
