10 gallon tanks are a standard for QTs. obviously, the larger , the better. if you make one now, remember it will cycle which can easily kill invertabrates. i dont know enough about stars to tell you its survivability. maybe ophiura can chime in here.

starfish are sensitive creatures. if you dosed your tank with some medication that you dont know what was in it, and that was meant to kill off small invertabrates, and other parasites, it could very well have poisoned of chemical burned the starfish. always keep a quarantine to avoid such...

here is the orange fungia , the colors are awesome on this coral. it makes it hard to photograph.
