    Stupid test kit

My Red Sea is an NO3II kit. It has two ways of checking for the nitrates. One way is slow and accurate and the other is a quick test that is not as accurate. The quick test gives me a good color. The other way to test does not change the color of the water at all. It is clear. This is deffinatly...

    Tank Recomendations

I say go for the LR. The tank cycle will take at least two weeks maybe more. You will not need the better lights until you start stocking the tank. Since you are not goinf with a reef the lights will be more for looks than anything.

    Calcium Or Phos Test Kit?

You really need both but if I have to choose I would go with the calcium test kit. Calcium levels are important in coral growth.

High end Retail Salt a must ??

In short, yes you do. You do need to use aquarium salt. Table salt may have impurities that could hurt the tank inahbitants and may not have the trace elements needed for a healthy tank. Why take a shortcut that may cause the death of expensive corals and fish. There is an intital investment...

    Algae problem

You need to beef up your clean up crew and maybe cut back more on your ligting. You tank is still young and you will have this battle for a while. It is recommended to have 1 to 1 1/2 clean-up inverts (snails and crabs) per gallon of your tank. It seems odd that you are having problems with no...

    adding live sand

I had to do what you are thinking about doing. The key - large rubbermaid containers. Empty water form the tank into the rubbermaid containers, remove rock, inverts, corals and fish to the containers. Scoop out the CC. Put in the sand. Put water back into tank as well as LR, inverts, coral and...

    Emergency No power

Can you boil water? Like with a propane stove? Boil water and put it in gallon milk jugs. Float the jugs in the tank. As far as circulation I can't help you. Stir with a spoon maybe?

    Another Lighting Question

The 10,000k's give off a bright white light. The 50/50's are more blue and I think run around 7,000K. The antintic is all blue and I think run around 6,500k. These are Coralife NO bulbs that I am quoting info on. Now the question is how blue do want the tank to look? If you want real blue go...

    Need LIGHTING NEED HELP PLEASE

The DIY forum may have some info on building a canopy for you tank. If you are 'handy" this would be a cheaper alternative. I think canopies look better.

    Enough Light????

I think so. Up until two months ago I had 120 watts of NO flourecent. Recently increased to 150 Watts of NO flourecent. My polys and shrooms did fine under both set-ups. You can see at my website link below.

    OT: Oooh!!! Noooo!!! Freezing Rain

Freezing rain is when it rains and the temp outside is below 32. The rain freezes on all surfaces outside. The weight of the ice causes the tree limbs to break and fall on power lines. That in turn causes power outages. The weight of the ice can also bring powerlines down. In December people...
