all the idea's where ok but IMO- use cabinet latches- simple roller catches that are used to hold the door closed on a cabinet- the only thing is you need to use atleast 3 or 4 - top edges and bottom edges of the door- or other choice use cabinet magnets- no problem - good luck new fish

IMO : just take a five gallon paint bucket with a screw on lid , it has a pull out pour spout. Place your power head in it 1. 2 . 3. your finished ! hassle free. if you still want to use the gas cans for salt water storage then fill them up. good luck new fish
