    mantis in my sump!!

I was in the sump room this AM, feeding my sump trigger(picasso) when I noticed some "dust" coming out of a hole in a rock. Then I noticed those unmistakable eyes peering out of the hole. It is a mantis shrimp. A smasher!!! I then proceeded to poke at him with a piece of rigid tubing and he was...

    Calcium Reactor users

I have just set up my new Korallin Kalkreactor and was wondering, once I dial in the thing to maintain my Ca and Alk, what do you guys use to replenish trace elements? Just water changes or do you dose supplements? I have been using B-ionic prior to the reactor.

You'll like the ricordia. I bought some here before and they were very nice. Actually split once already! As for the zebras and the turbo's. You'll have fun watching them zebras ripping them turbos off of the glass to try on their shell. At least that's what mine did. Anyway, congrats on the...

    Toadstool under MH

I have recently been told that they need stronger light when they get bigger. The one at my LFS is the size of a hub cap when it opens! it is also in a 500 gal reef tank. I would try it midway on the reef to start. BTW, they take a few days to open fully when first introduced. I have mine at the...

    A good first coral?

mushrooms may be a little tough with that intense lighting. Try a leather, colt coral, maybe ricordia if you want shrooms. Not sure about GSP's

    bad idea?

A fan is a good idea. If you have the same light as I do, there are optional legs for it to keep it up off of the water. Mine doesn't even get the glass top hot on my refugium.

What do I need to lower my nitrates?

That aragonite sand is fine. CC is more coarse and is also called aragonite. No worries there. I would say you are overfeeding with only one fish. I did the same thing at first. They always seem hungry, so we tend to feed too much to try to keep them happy. IMHO a cube of frozen is way too much...
