Yeah i use tap water on my 55 gal and i had a huge hair algae prob. I bought a bacteria called Marine SAT. It is a bacteria that consumes the nutrients that hair algae needs to survive and ends up killing the algae. It works great but can take up to 3 months.

I am making a 25 gallon FOWLR tank. I made a fluorecent light hood. Im not sure what kind of bulbs to put on it. Should they be like a 50/50, actinic or like ust plain lights. Im not planning on having any corals. What kind of lights should I have on it?
