    maroon clowns

My maroon was a horror! He started out small, 2 inches or so (I had a 20 gallon) and quickly (within a couple of months) was 4 inches. I had to move him to my 45 gallon. Then he just dug up all of the sand and chased ANY fish that came into the tank around. He would even chase my hand if I...

    gobies?

Catalina gobies are cool water fish. They live off of Catalina Island, CA. On websites they list that Catalina gobies can survive in tanks around 78 - 80 degrees, but their lifespan is short (somtimes weeks). They prefer water temps in the mid to low 70's.

    That Was Awesome!!

I agree with you - kind of boring. They went into WAY too many story lines ---

    Weird clown fish

I used to have freshwater angelfish and that happened when they had swim bladder problems. I assume saltwater fish get it too. When the freshwater fish had it, there was never anything I could really do to save them. Maybe other people have more advice or you could do a search on it. Sorry...

    Weird clown fish

I have a clownfish that does that. He'll go to the top of the tank and turn sideways and kind of float for hours, then he'll swim around the tank normally later in the day or when I feed him. I soon learned that the floating is how he sleeps. He does it at night when the light is off, too...

    Bugs on the glass

They're small - like red ant size and they are white (don't ask me why I chose to compare them to that insect)... I rubbed the inside of the tank down to get them off - hoping they will migrate to the sand bed. Some came back, but not as many. Could this be the result of the fuge? I just...

Just discovered our Tomato Clowns have eggs - need some advice

Hmmm... hopefully Bang will respond (I know he has a lot of posts to respond to!) All I understand is that it's extremely hard to raise the fry - Bang does is successfully, but then again Bang has a 850 gallon lagoon! Has the book helped at all? I bought my B&W clowns from a breeder and it...

Just discovered our Tomato Clowns have eggs - need some advice

Bang Guy has some good posts. Look for "Nemo" posts or others by him. I remember him saying that unless you can remove the eggs from the tank attached to a rock or something, he said you will need to have them hatch in the tank and remove the fry to another tank (10 gallon or so). HTH:)

    Bugs on the glass

How do you like your watchman goby? My husband wants that to be our next fish. Does he hide in the rockwork? What does he like to eat? Thanks for responding to my posts!:)

    Bugs on the glass

Other than a mandarin (my tank isn't established enough - and not enough LR) - what are recommendations. I don't want bugs crawling all over the glass - the sump glass is fine, but not the display tank.

    Bugs on the glass

No tentacles - they are tiny (REALLY tiny) and tons of them. I didn't see any running around the LS so I was curious why they are all congregating on the glass. These last few days I've started to see a little bit of green algae growing - perhaps that's what is attracting them?

    Bugs on the glass

I was looking at my tank today and noticed the water looks a little cloudy - then I noticed that the tank's glass is covered in little white bug looking things (pods?). My tank's only 2 months old - it's got LS, LR. What can I do to get rid of them? There's hundreds, if not a thousand...

    Emerald Crabs

Wow! Your emerald crab killed a hermit? My emerald only interacts with my snails, etc. by cleaning them. He often will ride the back of my conch and clean him. All of my inverts are so sparkly! I've never seen an emerald kill something.

    Unknown Crab ID

I say bring him back to the LFS and get some $$$ for him (probably like a dollar). OR... Maybe people like to collect miniature killer crabs... Calling all aggressive tank lovers - how about a *killer* 1 inch crab?

    Brown algae, Diatoms?

A fighting conch, astrea snails and nassarius snails cleaned up my 45 in no time at all. HTH

    30-45 Gallon SaltWater Tank

I was pretty proud of myself with the DIY project, too. I'm also looking into making moonlights for my tank. They make the tank look pretty cool at night and it will help once I get my corals going. It's a pretty quick project. You should check it out: LED Moonlight Project Anyway, let me...

    30-45 Gallon SaltWater Tank

Clownfish are finicky about each other. You should be able to put a B&W ocellaris with a plain ocellaris together the same as 2 B&W or 2 plains. BUT as with all clowns, sometimes 2 just don't get along. It's best to get them at the same time and make sure one is larger than the other. The...

    30-45 Gallon SaltWater Tank

Sorry! Got carried away - you're new and I shouldn't start spouting off confusing stuff. Do a search on "refugium". It'll show up a bunch of interesting things. Basically your plans on 45 gallon tank, LS, LR, filter and eventually clowns sounds like a good idea. The filter in the long run...

    30-45 Gallon SaltWater Tank

Okay - I was out of the hobby for a year or two and my 45 just got up a running again (about 6 weeks ago). I have: 40 lbs of base rock (my old live rock that I saved when I took my aquarium down) 25 lbs of live rock 40 lbs of live sand (about a 2 inch bed) Prizm protein skimmer ( a so-so...
