    Help with Corals

I had thought it was the opposite... from worst to best water is tap, distilled, ro/di. The water change will definately help a spike, but it wont totally get rid of it. You did a 25 gal change, out of how many gallons? I would say you may need to run some carbon to help with any crap that got...

    New Tank

Whoa...sims is right...good catch!!! That light on top looks like it is probably plain florescent fish only lighting. Can you post the wattage and type of light? It does look way insufficient to have a reef tank.

    can a tank cycle twice

Hi Chelle! I would say after you had a couple of weeks of your nitrites and ammonia reading 0, and your nitrates are low to 0, you should be good to go. Have fun!!! PS-glad your LFS gave yoy the proper advice not to add anything-they usually reccomend damsels or some other unfortunate...

    New Tank

Agreed with Greg...but that is only our opnion. Some people I know only have the front glass clean, and the sides and back are covered with coraline etc. My back 3 sides (have a hex tank) are covered with crap, and the rocks are really close there. My front 3 i try and keep clean. You may also...

    Reef Gro

They sound good, I would suggest the 10k...but i think that is personal preference of color. Although people have differing opinions on wether the 10k vs. 20k penetrates the water better, or certain corals do better under one or the other. You'll have to wait for more opinions on that specific...

    Reef Gro

never heard of them, what is the wattage? Are the florescent or metal halide? I think people need more info, but it sounds like they are better for growing pot than in a reef?

    Advice on using ocean water

The only problem that I have seen from posts I read is that you will need to watch your buffering for when you use top off water due to evaporation etc. Salt water alkalinity is at a perfect level in the ocean, but its buffering power in a closed system isn't very long lasting. You may want to...

    Mixing additives in doser?

Do not do this. First of all, you cannot mix certain thngs together, a great example is the b-ionic part 1 and 2. Mix a little of them together, and see what happens! Second, you could have a major precipitation event in your doser. Add the elements you wish by the specific instructions...

    high nitrate

A fuge is shortened from refugium...a place protected from fish and inverts etc that you can grow plants like cheato to help with nutrient export like getting rid of nitrates and phosphates. It is also a place where some of the little tiny creatures like pods can multiply. It basically adds a...

    My anemone's moving!!

There is no reason to move your corals unless he setles in a spot right next to a coral for any prolonged period of time. Coral will recess until it has gone by. It is the long term exposure that will kill a coral. My anemones have moved from time to time, rolling all over the corals, they...

    dead hermit

Split in half sounds like a molt. I know you checked his shell...did you have other shells in there he could move into? Grounding probes?

youre stray voltage with a rod should be zero. I had a 14v stary voltage running through my tank. I bought rod at LFS for like $18. Dont waste time DIY. Copper is not good to use. The one I bought i belive is titanium, and is all ready to go. For $18, i would think there are better things to do...
