It's good to have pre-made water on hand for your water changes. Before you use it, you need to re-check its salinity and warm it up - the idea is to get it as close as possible to the water in the tank so you don't shock the inhabitants.

I started with a 10 gallon - it has a lot of limitatons and it's more upkeep in some ways, but it's also really fun! A word of warning - this hobby can be habit forming - I now have a 29g as well....

Snipe: I have a CPRBak Pak and it hangs about 2 inches into the tank. I have a similar issue with a canopy and trying to find lights to fit - I am on the verge of buying VHO to retro fit into the canopy, would that work with yours?

For what it's worth, I saw a small nano at an LFS checkout the other day - it was 5.4 gallons and looked really nice. I asked the guy "How often are the water changes on this one?" His answer - every day ! :eek: That was enough for me to hear....

It's sold at Home Depot as "Tropical Play Sand". The bag has a red and blue graphic on it that says "from the Carribean" and it says it is silica free. That's the one you want. Hope that helps :)

Daredevil: I also have a 29g which I need to buy lights for. Am wondering why you decided on MH? And how many watts is that? If its 3.2 watts per gallon, its pretty close to 96 watts which sounds like PC lighting?? Are there really MH options in that range? I'm leaning toward VHO myself, you can...

I recently got some Xenia, and I noticed that it gets really grumpy if I do a water change with newly-mixed water. I'd make sure your water has been mixing at least 24 hours. Second, where's that ammonia reading coming from? And third, don't mess with a pregnant woman! Save the Xenia AT ALL COST!!
