the Emporer 400 isnt a wet dry filter is it?

Interested in building a 50 gallon rank, no corals just some cool fish and some anenomies, some crabs and other clean up crew guys lol.

Is it possible to have to much filtration? The tank im planning on building will be between 50-70 gallons and I was considering a seaclone 150 protein skimmer, is this to powerul? i know they make a 100 for 100 gallon tanks but i would think you cant have to much filtration?

Well i stopped by another LFS on the way home and the guy told me with what i wanted to do i could get away with just a skimmer. All i want is a couple simple anemoni for the clown fish and for looks... I plan on the tank being mainly fish with only a couple anenomi.

LFS said with a reef tank i SHOULD not run a regular filter and should run a wet/drt filter with a protien skimmer.. Game me a cost at 300 for the 2 together.. Again this is a 55 gallon tank.. Do i really need both? WHY/WHY NOT?
