    Starting to lose hope!

Are you saying your nitrites are at 0 (or is that your 30gl )and your nitrates are off the charts? If your ntrites came back to 0 than the cycle is complete and you can do a large waterchange.

    wrasse vs. Lion

I have a V. lionfish and I wouldnt put any kind of shrimp with him. I would think the dwarfs are the same and would eat any type of shrimp.

    Starting to lose hope!

Have you tried a different test kit? Maybe false readings. When I cycled my 90 with 165# of rock it took 2 weeks for the ammonia and nitrites to spike and come back down. There was so much die off it spiked immediately. The nitrates at the end of the cycle was well above 100ppm so I did a 80...

Kid put soap in my reef tank!!!!

I would pull everything out and rinse away. If the fish are dead I assume that any bacteria in the rocks ,sump and sand are dead too. Sounds like you may have to start from scatch. I dont blame you about having a talk about death. My daughter is 13 and I already had that discussion with her if...

    pistol shrimp & watchman goby

Thank you for the reply. Rite now the goby is just doing a little exploring of the tank and has gone by the pistols den, but Iam sure it will be a little bit before they introduce themselfs. Do you think there is any chance the pistol wont except him and kill if he tries to enter the den? The...

    salt mixture

I have 3 plastic swing arms and they all read something different and that is when I went to glass hydrometer. Everyone I talked to said they were much more accurate then the swing arms. I would definately like to get a refractometer in the near futures.

    Uh Oh?

Was the rag saturated in windex or just a small amount on it. If it was saturated I would take the fish out and monitor the water parameters. If the rag was just mildly damp I would leave them in there and do what tagg said and run carbon. Run the carbon in either case and change every 3 days...

    Uh Oh?

I think you should be fine, but in the future I would use warm water to wash the outside glass and then wipe dry with paper towel. I would wait a week or so before adding anything and just monitor the water parameters to see if anything changes. Just add a little flake food to the tank...

    Cynobacteria

The turn over rate is a little much but more does not hurt. Iam sure the ocean currents around reefs is pretty strong. I guess I will do a search on black and red coralline algea. Thats for the reply.

    Salt Ratio

15 # bag makes 50 gallons so 0.3# of salt per a gallon of water.

    Powerheads

The reason Iam running so much gph is I heard that helps to rid the cyno if that is what I have. The turn over rate includes mechanical filter and protein skimmer. I dont see any harm in having to much turn over, fish are usually strong enough to handle the current since the ocean is pretty...

    Cynobacteria

I think i have this growing in tank. I have a couple of patches that look red but a couple that look black. It looks like black and red coralline algea, not hairy or slimy and seems to be on the hard side but will come off in flakes. I shut my lights down for the whole day and placed a forth...

    Powerheads

I clean and clean and they still fall down. I have two of them being held up by the rocks and another one being held up by the one being held up by the rock. The forth one is the only one holding up on its own. The mag float idea sounds good I guess I will have to buy a couple more floats. Thanks

    Copper

In my opinion I would not use copper unless all other means of curing the problem fail. Copper can be harmful to fish and only should be used for treatment if there is a problem with parasites. If you have been running copper for 6 weeks or more I dont think you would have to worry about any...
