How to keep Nitrates down? (Sump)

FL Joe - I have addressed the Ich issue in the disease forum so I am dealing with that now....I didn't see anything for the Nitrate question I had so I put up a new one here...I may be asking too many things in one post. I will remove the sock tonight, clean any and all sponges with the skimmer...

How to keep Nitrates down? (Sump)

I have to retest my levels tonight but on Saturday when I changed out my water I noticed that the Nitrate levels were on the higher side then I expected...atleast 20 or so... right now I was wondering if anything could help out in general bringing down those levels if they continue to read on...

How to keep Nitrates down? (Sump)

I have a 25G sump...Euro style with a 200M sock. I am using a 200G rated ASM G2 protein skimmer and then a return pump back up to the tank. Is there anyway to add anything to the sump to keep down nitrate levels down at all? May be a simple Q or not...I'm not sure besides doing a water change...

    Ich all over the tank

I think that upping the dose in selcon is what I will try first. My LFS highly recommends this stuff over anything else so I picked that up and have used that ever since I picked up my tangs...I guess all I can do here is sit and wait and see what happens. So as I sit here and wait I will update...

    Ich all over the tank

I have a feeling that Kick Ich is a placebo to be honest...I just did a 20G water change...tank is 90G plus a 25G sump but with water its probably 10-15G or so. I have increased the heaters to read at 84 as well so let see what happens. I did add kick ich today earlier at 4oz or 1oz per 25G as...

    Ich all over the tank

Well temps are at 80...I can start to raise the temps slowly tonight so by the end of the day tomorrow I can keep it at 84... The contributing factors of this outbreak is adding the sump to the tank and not having a 2nd heater installed. I had to take most of the water out of the tank to move it...

    Ich all over the tank

Whelp learning the hard way I believe....I have ich and its spreading to my other fish and I have no idea what to do at this point then to cut my losses. I have a coral reef tank 90 G so using Copper is out of the question. Its impossible to catch any of the fish and place them in hypo...even...

    Do I have enough Filtration?

I have a 90G system with 90-100ibs of all live rock with a ASM G2 protein skimmer in sump and thats been doing a pretty good job...almost too good. I am using a 200M sock in the sump as well. I notice no fishy smell to the tank which is a great determinator of crap in the water being taken out.

    Current USA Lighting question?

I believe dual 150s with the T5 lighting should do pretty well from what I have understood and read. For your size tank I can completely understand where you would need the 250s. They also offer the setup with just the CF lighting instead of the T5s...but from what I understand the T5s are the...

So a couple months ago I purchased a Coralife 260w system with night lights...looks good. I am now thinking about upgrading the lighting system now that I have sold a few other things so I can afford to purchase a better system. Any particular recommendations as to a nice 48in system with night...
