You siad your doing a new tank right? You should also go buy a raw uncooked shrimp and drop it in the tank to cycle your tank. :)

I'm going to set up a QT. Is 10 gal to small for a QT? Can I set it directly on the floor or do I need to have it on a stand for the tank? I know I need to paint the bottom and get some PVC or some small fake rock to allow the fish to hide. Thanks

Your best bet is to buy a few of the 5 Gal jugs and fill them with the RO water from walmart. Then buy some salt, a spare heater, a power head, and a big rubbermaid container to mix your water in for about 24 hours. Thats what I do and it works really well.

I'm not the best person to ask about the live rock. You want to make sure you have I believe about 1.5 lb per gallon in your tank. You shouldn't need to add cycle. To cycle your tank you need to get a uncooked raw shrimp and drop it into the tank. If you look around there is alot of...

Place the rock in before you add your fish. You want to get any cycle done first before you add your fish. Live rock can cause a mini cycle if you have any die off.

One thing I found to help me when I was having consistant low ph problems was that I stopped using PH-Up. I just increased my water flow in the tank and water agitation on the surface. Since that time my Ph has stayed around 8.2-8.4 My tank is going on 3 months old.
