Are you anal about water parameters?

If you're like me, you want to know exactly what your nitrite level is and know that test kits are not very accurate and are highly prone to error. I have a Hach DR/890 portable colorimeter for sale with manual, peripherals, and some reagents. Can test for more than 90 different chemicals...

    nothing in stock????

I've gotten both inverts and fish from here, and have not had a single issue. On the contrary, I'm singin' high praises (much higher quality than other online purchases from other websites). Example, ordered 10 each of nassarius and astrea snails, got 12 and 11 respectively. Coral I got was a...

    PH Question

I would avoid dumping in chemicals to get the pH down. Try doing a water change first, see if that helps. Also, check your alkalinity levels, they are also going to be off with that high of a pH. The high pH could be due to a spike in ammonia (which is expected when curing live rock); amonia...

    EMG w/ fishes

Its pretty easy to tell sexes in the older fish, young fish can be difficult if they are still developing. Females will have a rather short, lobed dorsal fin, while males will have a long pointy dorsal fin. google it, I'm sure you'll be able to find some pics on the web.

    EMG w/ fishes

I've had gouramis for years and feel your pain. Most gouramis are territorial, but you can usually get away with mixing them. If you have a male and a female, let the female be alone in the tank for a few days, then introduce the male. If you have any floating substrate, they will soon be...

    240 idea???

Don't get a leopard! I had a leapord for ~6 years (don't anyone start yelling, it was at a research lab, where we had her in a 16'diameter, 3.5' deep swimming pool in a flow through system). Leopards are ram ventilators, meaning they HAVE to keep swimming or they will suffocate. Even babies...

    duh...could I be a bigger idiot?

Hello All I'm new to saltwater aquariums (though not new to FW aquariums). Over the past decade, I've gotten a couple of degrees in marine biology (MS highest level) and have taken years of abuse from my family for always having freshwater tanks. After getting away from the family (by moving...

    Why tank looks green

The glass itself is giving you the green tint. Some manufacturers use a lower quality glass, giving the green look that you have. The aquarium is slightly less expensive that way, but the asthetics leave something to be desired. Nice set up though.

    question? water bubbles.

In addition to killing organisms exposed to the air, there could also be other more serious issues. If these airpockets are being form a good distance away from the water outfall, it could be an indication that your water is supersaturated with oxygen. Its good to have high dissolved oxygen...
