    Gorgonian care

    I would recommend a non-photosyntehtic gorgonian. This means you'll have to feed it, but I think they're easier. Provide lots of laminar flow(to allow skin sloughing, and prevent algae growth), feed it, and you should be fine.

    To combat cyano algae...increase water flow in your tank, utilize a granular ferric oxide phosphate binder (like RowaPhos), decrease feedings, skim aggressively, and ensure your water source is not the source of the phosphates. Are you using 0 TDS RO/DI water?

    unsure how far below the surface they are, but you may want to try lowering them, as they may be creating a vortex, sucking air from the surface

    a better way, imo, is the use of a reverse daylight refugium growing macroalgae, and weekly partial water changes.

    Total Dissolved Solids. Get on ---- and find a decent TDS meter ($20).

    I've always been a proponent of grounding probes. There are even some DIY titanium probe plans if you Google them. I believe they use a spoke from a bicyle rim or something similar.

    When you notice your TDS rising. A general rule of thumb is (values given depend upon amount of water produced by the unit) 6 months for filters, a 2 years for the membrane.

    can you provde some details about your sump. Is it glass with acrylic baffles, acrylic with acrylic baffels, etc?

    Coralife Super Skimmer

    Another mod you can make is to remove the flexible hose, install a 1"PVC gate valve, and the durso output (as described above). The gate valve will allow finer tuning of the water level in the skimmer. Be sure to fully open the stock ball valve when doing this. Works great.
