    10 Gallon Sump Saga

I am using a mag 7. Would a filter sock be something i need to change daily? What about the poly fill? I purchased just some basic cheap poly fill from walmart. Is that safe to use? I need to remedy the MB issue soon as my corals are really starting to suffer.

Well it appears that my skimmer is starting to break in now. It isnt yet delivering any gunk into the container but the bubbles are getting more frothy and thicker. I had to turn it down as it was filling up the container fairly quickly of nearly clear water. So that appears to be going...

Al,I do have LR in the bubble tower. Shawn: I ended up opting for return in the middle per suggestions from here. I now am regretting that and wishing i had put the return in the last section as originally planned. This is because i have micro bubbles and bubbles in general easily getting...

Sorry for the late reply. But yes tonight i finally got it up and running. So far so good. A couple initial issues i have come across. 1. the inner box of the overflow can't be raised quite high enough to allow water level to reach the very top of my tank. This is because my acrylic tank has...

Meowzer, i didnt see much difference either. However, i literally spent about 10 hours pouring over all sorts of online forums and googling information on the different overflows and the closest U Tube type to the lifereef i read about was the the eshopps overflow found on the bay for about 50%...

No it doesnt. U tube type overflows dont use the aquafilter. They typically arent needed from what i have read prior to purchasing. That is why the consensus that i found on various forums was to avoid those types of overflows as you are inherently relying on a pump which can easily burn out...

I am hopeful for no bubbles or at least ones that will be accumulating and hanging out waiting to break the siphon. Lifereef has made a guarantee on theirs to no break siphon and claim none have in like 22 years and guarantee theirs will not break siphon or not start up after a power outage...

Yeah, no leaking anywhere. What really helped making good even corners with the silicone was after applying the silicone i used some plastic corner tools used for kitchen/bathroom caulk. You can pick the length of the bead you want and just run the corner up the bead of caulk and you get a...

Corey, I see what you mean. If i put it right at or above the return line it will just push water out the little holes which will be fine, but in the event of a power loss there would ZERO siphon back. Now all i need to worry about is the U tube maintaining the siphon with 450 gph being pushed...

Hi Corey, I actually upped both sides another 1-1.5" or so from some leftover glass pieces i had. It is near the top all the way across the bubble tower. I doubt i will have 600 gph coming out of the overflow since the mag 7 with my head will only be pumping 450 at max capacity and i also will...

yeah i already poured some water into the bubble tower and it is literally about 1/8" away from mixing together and it looked like some did pour over when i poured it in really fast. I already am preparing the height additions. I guess i dont care what it looks like since it will be under my...

Hey Al, Yep the 2nd baffle will be added shortly. I needed to test the seals in case they weren't completely sealed. If not then i could add more silicone before i more or less sealed in the 1st baffle by putting the 2nd one in so close to the 1st one. I however wish i had made the bubble...

Here are a couple pictures as promised. I am testing the seals today before i add my final baffle. Hope to have it up and running in the next couple days! Here is another perspective of the bubble tower:

Already got the bubble tower cut out and siliconed in. I accidentally ended up with a 10" high bubble tower instead of the 10.5". I also ended up cutting the 1st baffle separate from the bubble tower. I have the refugium baffle in place and the tower and will have the 1st and 2nd in by this...

I just got done cutting a couple of the baffles and i dont see any foreseeable way to cut part of it at one height and the other at a different height. The glass is so brittle that i doubt i could get a clean break at two height levels. So i will just have to make two pieces. Not a big deal...

ok, one last question before i start cutting the glass. shawn, thanks for the offer on building the bubble tower. I think i am just going with glass since i have it already purchased and cant wait any longer to get this stuff up and running. So if i am having the tower and 1st baffle butted up...

    10 Gallon Sump Saga

I see what you mean, where having it 10+" high would almost leave no chance for the water to flow anywhere but out the bottom, then the skimmer section fills and pours over the 9.5" 1st baffle, right? I just need to put out my thoughts once more so i can get it straight in my head. So please...

    10 Gallon Sump Saga

If anything i think the bubble trap would need to be lower than the 1st baffle to prevent overflow into middle section. That is of course if they are butted up against each other. Since it is higher and the in case all the flow doesnt escape the one eggcrate side of the trap it will be forced...

    10 Gallon Sump Saga

Hi Al, thanks again for the awesome drawings! I was thinking that i may need to have a space between bubble tower and first baffle. EVen though the 1st baffle is 1" lower than bubble tower, if they are butted up against each other i suspect i will have spill over from tower into middle...
