    Adding new fish.....

I have a 50 gallon upright FO tank with about 30 lbs of LR. I have a yellow tang and a hawaiian puffer who have been tank buddies for over a year and a half. I am thinking of adding a few new fish but I don't want to make a mistake. I would love to have two percula clowns and a coral beauty...

    Purple up....

I've heard you should never add anything to your tank that you can't test for. Purple up is one of them.

How often do you change the carbon in the filters?

Prime is a water conditioner made by "Seachem". It removes chlorine, chloramine, ammonia...etc. from tap water. It also detoxifies nitrite and nitrate allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. It converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank's...

How often do you change the carbon in the filters?

I've never had a problem with water quality at all. I've heard so many people say RO is best , but it wasn't until recently (the past few years) that RO units were being sold. What did people do before that? The best thing to do is use a GOOD quality water conditioner and aerate at least 24-48...

How often do you change the carbon in the filters?

For those of you using tap water.....The expense of an RO/DI filter is quite high if you want a good one. Some people can't afford that (like me). I use Prime to treat my tap water - it removes chlorine, chloramine, ammonia....etc. I mix the salt in a 5 gallon bucket add the prime and aerate it...

How often do you change the carbon in the filters?

What is HLLE? I have an emperor 400 and it only uses carbon filters. It also has extra trays that I use carbon in as well. I've never heard carbon is bad before......

harry, which skimmer did you buy and what size tank do you have? I thought the seaclone 100 would work great for my 50 gal, but now I'm not so sure.

    help....another skimmer question....

The micro bubbles are going into the tank....it says to start out with the air flow control wide open, wait one hour, then 1/4 turn every half hour after that. Am I doing something wrong? It is set up just as the directions say.

    help....another skimmer question....

Sorry folks but yet another skimmer question....I just purchased a SeaClone 100 for my 50 gall FOWLR tank. I just installed it. The directions say to leave the air tube wide open for one hour and then make small turns every hour after that until foam appears in upper chamber. My question is...

Will a puffer eat a shrimp?

Thank you so much. Not sure what was compatible with the puff, but I absolutely love him! He adds so much personality to the tank and he is very peaceful. I'll post in the compatibility section. Thanks Again!

Couple Pics of my Tank and Live Rock!!!

It is never good to cycle a tank with fish. Some people just use damsels to build up the biological filter through the cycle process. Damsels can tolerate the cycle to some extent because they are more hardy. But, they are aggresive and hard to catch and take out of the tank once the cycle is...

Will a puffer eat a shrimp?

Darn! I've read here that the peppermint is fun to watch and also great for clean up crew. Any ideas on clean up crew for 50 gallon tank? I really don't like hermits .... I have a FOWLR tank. I'm not sure what to put in there with puff.

    Couple easy questions.

The lion fish is definately not a good choice for your tank size. They grow quite large, prefer live food, and they are extremely poisonous. I would go with the clowns, maybe royal gramma, or some other small hardy fish only after your tank is fully cycled in.

    Cycled in...added 3 fish...help..

well i am truley grateful for the advice...even though I had the tank set up before, I had to move away from the beach and give up all my fish to my lfs. This is the same tank but set up new with some much better equipment. I am a person to "stick to what works before" but now that I don't have...
