What do you have in the tank to start the cycle? I am new at this as well. There are many posts on this forum that discuss cycling.

Thanks for the input. I am going to try moving everything to one side, removing the remaining CC and then adding sand. I will then move the LR onto the sand and change the other side.

Sharky-I don't understand the problem with the collection cup. I also bought it with the drainer hole. The drainer hole prevents using the cup at a few heights, but you can still raise the cup all the way.

I currently have a 58-gallon tank that uses an Emperor 400 filter. I have ordered a Remora skimmer. I have about 40-50 lb of LR. I currently have a Zoo-med PH and will be adding a Maxi-Jet 900 when I add the new skimmer. My question is can I do without the Emperor filter? I feel it helps...

Why do you recommend staying away from the 100 gpd unit?

Check consumer reports. They don't think the Dyson is worth the cost. Hardwood floors was the answer at our house. Much cleaner to sweep up the hair than try and vacuum.
