It is a complete hood and you could take it apart but it would be a lot of work. You would have to add wire extensions and all. But I guess it could be done if you are savy with electronics. The 2X65 watt ballast is electronic and is made by a company called Robertson Inc. HTH

Well you actually dont feed your live rock. Live rock is called live rock because of the life on it and the purposes it serves. I feed my filter feeders DT's Phytoplankton they love it. Your live rock can have die off but if you have good lighting and circulation it will stay full of life. Also...

I would say not to put the sand and crushed shell from the beach in your aquarium. There are many elements, polluntants, etc in the sand and crushed coral that would not be good for a home aquarium. It would be like taking water from the ocean and putting it in your aquarium too many unknown...

I feed mine live brine shrimp and DT's Phytoplankton. They enjoy both very much. Good lighting will also help them multiple rapidly. HTH
