Help me Start Right, what fish and corals?

Stick with mushrooms, star and button polyps, try xenia. but you do not have enough light for anemones and you better stay away from the angels. The guy at my lfs had a little to much to drink one night and put a bi color angel in his 125 tank that is set up with live rock to display corals...

    The next step

The small crab "from a nearby beach" scares me, do you have any clue what kind it is or how big it might get? Most crabs are predatory, and will eat anything from fish to coral. The ones that we use in the hobby are ones that have proven themselves to be algae eaters and such. as far as...

    Filtering

I would put on something for mechanical filtration even if it is just a bio-wheel. as far as live rock just put it all in but don't add any live stock have your filtration going ant test your water you should be able to add livestock slowly in a few weeks. For lighting I would use an Ice cap...

    Now taking new fish suggestions

The fish is to go into the 29. As far as the mandarin, he is doing ok but thats about it. He's been in there for 5 months, he's not growning, but he's not shrinking either. I think he will live, but I really wish he had more to eat. If I had it to do over again, I most likely wouldn't get...

    Now taking new fish suggestions

I have 2 tanks. 1 is a 37 gal reef with 2 percs. 1 golden headed sleeper goby, 1 mandarine dragonet, and 1 lawnmower blenny, + a nice assortment of inverts. My other tank is a 29 gal FO with LS and dead rock. It has an eclipse hood for filter and lighting. For fish it has a med. blue damsel...

    green star polyp questions

Yes, light could be the reason. You said that you are thinking about upgrading your bulbs to vho. You do realize that you will have to upgrade your ballast to a vho ballast as well, don't you? You said that you also add kalkwasser, I'm not sure, but I don't think that it will do anything for...

    Too much Rock??

By the way, If you plan on adding live rock, don't plan on using copper to medicate anymore. Thats the trade off. I personally think it is a good one. John

    10 gallon dont laugh

My lfs has a 10 gal eclipse with ls, lots of live rock, 1 blue damsel, 1 bicolor blenny, 1 coral banded shrimp, several mushroom corals and some button anemones. This tank has been going for 2 years and they don't believe in water changes. Go Figure John

    polyps- poison

What you are talking about is aptisia. I've never heard of them being poison, but they do reproduce like rabbits and will take over your tank. Not a big worry, if you see some just get a couple of peppermint shrimp and they will enjoy an nice aptisia snack. John

    Lighting AGain please..

Go for it then let us know how it works. I've actually heard of people using mercury vapor lights over their fish tank. Although I do know from my job experience that a MH light of the same wattage as a halogen is MUCH brighter. Good luck, and let us know how it goes. John

I've never even seen a post for tne rock since I've been here. As far as the topic goes, I think we need an expanded labeling system with more titles, you know, give us jumbos something to work for.
