will that require lighting under the cabinet?

the problem is I don't have anyway to suspend the lighting. I dont have (or want a canopy). dont want chains hanging from the ceiling. The lights are approx 4 inches off the top, do you think that will be ok?

No, heater is UNPLUGGED. Temp has risen to between 84-86 since I have added new lights (4x64pc 4 inches off the top). I think bang guy was saying to raise my heater to match the current temp so that when the lights go off, the temp won't drop down 4-6 degrees.

Is there any harm in using ice cubes to help cool the tank down? I cannot afford a chiller and seem to be running a little hot (84 degrees)I have fans on the lights but it doesn't help that much.

I use an emperor 400 on my 75gal. Never had one problem.

I agree with those that think this is overkill. While I believe inthe saying "he who dies with the most toys wins" , I have yet to be convinced that this is anything more than a toy.

I agree with TangMan! The search engine will give you enough reading to keep you busy for some time. But, never hesitate to ask your questions. The only dumb questions are the ones you never ask! Good luck getting your tank set up!

According to what I have read, you want to turn the water over a minimum of 5 times per hour. With the larger reef systems, people go up to 20 times an hour.

How far out did you go to harvest your sand Gene? I would be concerned about polution (diesel fuel from boats etc) getting into my tank.
