Need advice...first vacation since we've had our tank setup!

I bought the JBJ auto top off unit for when I went on vacation. It is awesome. I just keep a five gallon bucket filled with r/o water undernesth my stand & it pumps the water into my tank when the water falls below where I placed the sensor. It has also been so much nicer not to have to do my...

Does anyone hate snails, but find them necessary for a clean up crew?

I have a serious phobia of worms, snails, slugs. When I see a worm outside or something slimy along those lines, my heart starts beating out of my chest and it just scares the hell out of me. Lets just say it took a lot of courage to add snails to my tank. I am actually starting to warm up...

    Baby sea slugs?

I noticed what appear to be baby sea slugs, possibly baby snails? with no shells in my tank recently. They are about 1/4" long, white with a brownish spot on their middle, and have a split tail. The only snails I have in my tank are astreas. Are these new babies or something else. I found...

    Estamated cost.

I would say higher than 2000. I have spent nearly that on my 46G...and I don't even have any fish yet. It is possible to get a cheap tank but the good equipment is gonna cost you...especially the lighting. And don't forget how much live rock you would need...that could easily be a grand right...

    Cycling with only live sand?

No one is making fun of you. It is very common practice to add some raw shrimp to your tank to help it cycle. This will cause the jump in your ammonia and get your cycle starting. Just let the shrimp decompose on the bottom of your tank, once you see an decent ammonia increase, you can go...

    Cleanup Crew

IMO Packages from any site have WAY too many critters than anyone needs & a lot of them will probably end up starving. You really just need to take a look at what condition your tank is in. If you aren't really having any algae problems and your tank is pretty clean, you don't need much...

Broken filter:( Need replacement advice please

Hi My emperor biowheel filter just broke (started making crazy grinding noises). I need to replace it with something but don't know what would be best. That filter didn't really fit anyhow now that I added a current usa light setup (I had to push the light fixture forward an inch or so to get...

    live rock

It probably shouldn't be in there at all. It will slowly kill anything beneficial & living as they are used to living in a saltwater enviroment.

Begin the Rage -- high Nitrates

Nitrates will probably get higher rather than lower as your tank matures. They tend to build up rather than filter out. You need to make sure you keep up on your water changes. You are best getting yourself some more live rock. You should have 1-2 lbs per gallon. I am not completely sure...
