I would say higher than 2000. I have spent nearly that on my 46G...and I don't even have any fish yet. It is possible to get a cheap tank but the good equipment is gonna cost you...especially the lighting. And don't forget how much live rock you would need...that could easily be a grand right...

No one is making fun of you. It is very common practice to add some raw shrimp to your tank to help it cycle. This will cause the jump in your ammonia and get your cycle starting. Just let the shrimp decompose on the bottom of your tank, once you see an decent ammonia increase, you can go...

IMO Packages from any site have WAY too many critters than anyone needs & a lot of them will probably end up starving. You really just need to take a look at what condition your tank is in. If you aren't really having any algae problems and your tank is pretty clean, you don't need much...

It probably shouldn't be in there at all. It will slowly kill anything beneficial & living as they are used to living in a saltwater enviroment.

Nitrates will probably get higher rather than lower as your tank matures. They tend to build up rather than filter out. You need to make sure you keep up on your water changes. You are best getting yourself some more live rock. You should have 1-2 lbs per gallon. I am not completely sure...
