    My 55 Softy

It is nice, I like the natural look! A fan of softies, too. Your BF doesn't bother them? I have a metallic blue background and you would be surprised how the tank pops out and the colors are enhanced with a simple background. I think you may be thinking of the ones with those lovely fake fish...

    Phoenix Tanks

Back to Earth. Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10 or just above PH, though, is at 8.0 SG is 1.021 This is after a water change last night of about 40% I have been keeping the temp low (around 76) and the lights off through the cycle. Any hints on what the problem may be?

    Phoenix Tanks

I am so over the hill..over the hump I mean!! 0 nitrite, about 30 nitrate and PH is at 8.2 Big sigh and water change tomorrow! Already dreaming. One of the good LFS has a Moorish Idol. I need to research, but what a grand fish. I have a Tomato Clown and a pair of pajamas so I am just...

    skimmer

You can run a skimmer from the very beginning of tank set up. You'd be surprised that even the brand new water can produce "skimmate". What is your set up?

    Phoenix Tanks

So day 24..Nitrites at about 2.0 I won't test the nitrates yet because I know I what I will see and it's just a waste of test product. When nitrite is kinder, I'll break out those little bottles again. Still haven't tested PH. It is about 7 more days to a full month and I have certainly seen...

    Phoenix Tanks

Day 21 (beer, not coffee) Nitrite at about 3.0 and nitrate at 10.0. Progress is as slow as this thread. Sorry to say; but what a wonder it really is. However the last rock dusting, another 10% water change and the sand is in. 20 lbs of white, sugar-fine sand. It is so pretty and satisfying on...

    Damn Damsels !

I have often resorted to using two nets..one to corral and one to GOTCHA. Depends on the tank setup, but usually is successful.

Thanks Henry. I feel better about dry sand myself. I really don't even want enough substrate to show above the tank border.

    Phoenix Tanks

Day 15.. Ammonia is at 0; so glad because I just don't care for the warmer colored cards. Nitrites off the scale as far as I can see. Nitrate (yet another warm color scheme) is negligible, I would say 10 if I had to. The plan is to dust the rock once more, then station them where I might be...

    I am sooo sad

I am sorry to hear, Teresa, I know how hard that can be. And difficult to want to start again. Take heart.

Just starting out and very overwhelmed!!

Folks help me if I have the term wrong; the anaerobic cycle is what you need to learn and see your tank through first, Amanda. Google it as much as you can stand and do purchase your test kit with the big 4, at least; PH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate. I am doing this very thing (cycling, again)...

    Phoenix Tanks

This is 13 days into the cycle. Ammonia is at just less than 2.0 and nitrite is ( !! ) at 5.0 for lack of a higher test result, I think. My camera is non-com at the moment, though I am documenting with my daughter's camera and will post once I have the cord. (she is 14, it could be some time) I...

    Six line wrasse question

I have always considered the wrasse family to be more "self assured" than "aggressive". Nice fish, but as said before you just can't know for sure. Maybe a good rule of thumb is to have the more socially unafraid fish to be the last added to the tank. I have had good experiences with wrasse...

    Phoenix Tanks

Test last night revealed Ammonia @ 4.0 (still) and nitrites @ a good 2.0. I have not tested nitrates yet. I have dusted the rock twice, so far. Last Tuesday with the 10% water change and last night after testing. I will again before the next water change. There is a lot of matter coming out of...

    damels with a bad rap

At one time I had a tomato clown, a yellowtail, a yellow and two chromis in a tank. The yellow damsel was the witch of the tank and I finally got so upset with her that I yanked her out and took her to my LFS. I told him I really didn't care if she went for a porcelain ride, if he would just...
