    food for eel

If you have a fresh fish market nearby you can generally get shrimp and squid from there. Most of them sell "bait" squid nd shrimp which starts off as food for people then once it hits it's max time on sale then they repackage it and sell it as bait. I would go that route if you can because the...

    in general ?

Wattage definately has to be a factor because ( and I'm not trying to cause any trouble ) as 1Journeyman said was that high lighting would consist of T5 or halides. T5 is a bulb size not power I can go buy a 14w T5 bulb but I know it's not enough for my 240g tank, neither would a 75w halide...

    in general ?

Again thanks for helping to clarify some questions. I know I'm sounding like an idiot but I'm trying get get the information clear before acting. I have about16 months with saltwater predator tanks but am wanting to expand my horizons. It sounds like a good rule for starters is about 3.5-4 watts...

    in general ?

Thanks for the input, considering the Kelvin is color spectrum and since blue penetrates water the deepest then the higher the K the deeper the penetration? On a 24 inch or deeper tank you want more lights 10,000K or higher in order to get the most penetration? If I am correct so far then the K...

    in general ?

I know that the penetrating power has alot to do with it as does the tank size and individual species to be place in a tank. I guess what is the most frustrating is that I see books and websitess that give a 1-10 scale for lighting, water flow, etc, but they do not give a bench mark to start...

    in general ?

I see alot of information about lighting and flow but have not seen just a "general rule" list of amounts. I know that there are literally thousands of opinions and facts but I think a general starter list would be benficial. I am slowly moving from FOWLER to adding some corals which is why I'm...

is brine shrimp really that bad

I use brine shrimp on 1 of my tanks but I do soak them overnight in vitachem and garlic xtreme. This way I am getting the nutrition ( hopefully ) that my fish need, they also do get regular feedings of other foods as well. If your trigger likes the brine shrimp my suggestion is to invest in some...

Need help ID'ing a Grouper (pics)

Definately not a black grouper like in the gulf of mexico. By the shape of it I'd say a speckled grouper just a darked variation. I have one that's almost identical but more of a bluish hue to it.

    Barracuda won't eat

Not that I am in agreement with having a barracuda but what kind is it, some of them only get about 1-2ft, still way too big for a 55g and considering they need alot of space I can't picture anything short of a public aquarium for housing one. The Great Baracuda gets very large but some of the...

    My fellow gun gurus...

What I've done as far as the roommates coming in late at night is I tell them NOT to be quiet and make sure that they turn on lights as they go. If someone is "breaking in"then they are likely to be quiet and not turning on lights. As far the the guns themselves beautiful Kimber! I have a Kimber...

My LFS has a Stonefish, should i buy him?

I have had a stonefish for about a year now, it's a very interesting fish specially at feeding time. If you are going to buy one first know that they are EXTREMELY venomous, but not electric, and they will ( I am speaking from experience on this one ) eat anything that they can fit into their...

    questions about niger trigger

I have both a Niger and Picasso trigger in one of my tanks and if you put any inverts in with them don't get attached to the inverts. Mine are fairly well behave and have great personalities but even a "nonaggressive" trigger is still a tough fish. I say if you are planning on upgrading your...

Anyone had good experiences with Clown Triggers?

In my tank a trigger bite is the least of my worries. Mine could still do damage to me and I'd keep them. I think they're awesome.

Anyone had good experiences with Clown Triggers?

You just have to be careful when working in the tank. They are great fish, and that goes for triggers in general. Mine is still the passive fish in the tank. My tang kinda beat him up the other day.
