Thanks for the replies! It's impossible for me to explain everything that has happened to me since I started or else this post will go on for days. It's good to see someone knows what going on with me and sympathizes.
My next step is to get a custom made sump from a site that makes them. It's...
I've been in this hobby for over a year now and when I began like alot of people I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Since, I've got some-what of an idea what's going on.
I have a 125 gallon tank with 3 inches of l/s and 60lbs. of l/r. For equipment I use a wet/dry that isn't suffiecient...
Anthem, I read that it give me better water quality. There is no main reason. Right now it's a fowlr and down the line when I get more experience I'll try to convert to a reef. Thanks Lurch, double the capacity right?
If you are using any type of filter pads or sponges on your set up I suggest you turn your pump back on. I don't know where the smell is coming from. Do you have a skimmer? I so it lets off a horrible smell.
The answer to the other question is yes the tank would clear up eventually. That's...
You can go to the homepage and click on "tank set-up" and it will give you a general run down on where to start.
Let me give you the best advice: Read all the info you can on the hobby from tank placement to lighting requirements before you spend any money. If I can save you some money it...
I used that brand before it does take some time, about 30 min. with good circulation. I highly urge you to start buying instant ocean. It's disolved in minutes and ready to go. It is recommened though, to let sit and aerate(sp) for some time.
In reading post on this board you'll see alot of people recommending things that others would not. A protien skimmer on the other hand, 90% of the people here would suggest you have one.
Do you recommend using one on a reef/FO? What brand do you prefer? Should I get one that is rated double my water compacity or one that is rated for just my tank size?
I have 125 gallon tank and I don't have enough lighting. It's 72" long so if anyone have a fixture with MH, VHO light set up with fans on each side please reply.
At first you had no fish in your tank now you do. Creatures aren't as dumb as we sometimes think. They sense predetors in the tank now so they are taking shelter. I sure when the lights go out they're all over the place.
What's off the chart? Mine is a 140ppm. Water changes should be preformed frequently when tryiing to lower your nitrates. What your water source? When having this problem carbon and filter floss or pads should be rinsed and changed regularly. It's a lot of things you need to do to combat...
I have a 125 gallon tank and I use a Berlin Turbo Classic skimmer and I works great. Imidiate results. It's the only one I have had experience with so of course it's a bias opinion.
You said you have powerheads on order? You don't have enough water movement in your tank. Once you get the powerheads make sure the currents can reach the substrate. You also need to get a phosphate test kit. It's a major cause in algea break outs. It's not your nitrates. As someone said...
I'm sorry LionKeeper, you should test your tank water before and after you dose to see what level your at. You want to be between 420 and 500. Dosing as I do with the product I use it raises my calcium 12ppm each time.
What ever product you're using should tell you on the bottle. I use the powder from Seachem(Reef Adv. Calcium). I use one teaspoon every 40 gallons. I also have a 125 gallon tank.
