    What is This!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!?!??!

diatomes. Is your tank new and/or are you using tap water. If you answered yes to any of these questions, than that is why you have them. They will go away on their own if your tank is new but if you are using tap water than they won't go away until you start using ro, di, or ro/di water.

    Calcium and Alcalinity

Yeah, I was extremley disappointed with the purple up. I expected there to be some awesome explosion of coralline in my tank but that didn't happen. I don't have any snow yet so hopefully things are ok but like I said, I'm done with the purple up. I wonder though, since I'm doing weekly water...

    Need Help please

Although you really shouldn't have rinsed that stuff, I doubt that that is what killed the starfish. The starfish probably died because the the tank is cycling and the cycle will last a couple of weeks. The sand and rock is fine to keep in your tank as long as you didn't use any cleaning...

    Calcium and Alcalinity

I tested my calcium and alkalinity and found that my calcium is very high (600ppm) and my alkalinity is a little low (107.4 ppm KH or 6 dKH). What is the problem with having high calcium? I do use purple up and reef cristals along with kent essential elemaents so I'm going to stop dosing for a...

    sandbed questions

What is the benefit of having a deep sand bed? Is it only good for those people who happen to like the look of deep sand or is there a benefit? I have heard from some people that it helps to lower nitrate and ammonia and I have heard from others that a deep sandbed will cause nitrate. I have...

    zoos

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I already detached them from the original rock and put them on another but they look great. I moved them up closer to the light and in some direct water flow so I'll see what that does for them.

Newest of Newbies here--all except one fish dead this am

If you don't have a test kit yet you should get one right away. A master test kit will be around $30 and is a must have for all salt water tanks. Running a test will let you know what exactly is going wrong in your tank and you need to do tests every so often anyhow just to make sure...

    zoos

I have them under pc lights and it's about 5 watts per gallon. The paramiters are almost perfect. I have no ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, or nitrite. my pH is usually about 8.0 and my salt density is usually about 1.023-4. I don't know why that aren't spreading. I have yellow polyps in my...

    zoos

Just wondering, how do zoos reproduce? Do they split themselves or what?

    zoos

Maybe I'll try to remove them. I've had them for a couple months and they don't seem to be spreading. They open up and look nice but I have the same amount that I have started with. I hope I'm not doing something wrong.

    zoos

I bought a tiny zoo frag from a lfs a while back that is just about 5 small zoos on a tiny rock about the size of a piece of gravel that you would have in your driveway. Anyhow, it's just been sitting in my tank and I was wondering if there is any way to move them from the tiny rock onto a...

    Maxima clam Q

Just wondering, I would love a maxima clam for my 16 gal reef tank but why are they labled as difficult? I know they need strong light and I have an 80 watt pc fixture which gives me approx 5 watts per gallon but do they need a metal halite? What else is there to know about them? I know that...

    Snails trying to get out?Help

It seems like snails do that alot. They will usually go right to the top and stop rather than climb out. If you do see them getting uncomfortably close, it won't hurt to push them back in.

    coral beauty wont eat

How did you aclimate it? There have been times when I was brand new to salt water when I did a lowsy job aclimating new fish and that shocked the them and then it wouldn't eat. You may also want to try to spark its appetite with some garlic. Fish love it and it's good for their immune system...

    crab Q?

I have had a strawberry crab in my tank for about two months now and it has not yet shed its shell. Is this normal and is there possibly something that I am doing wrong that is causing it not to shed (i.e. is there some trace element that I need to supplument for them to shed their shell or...

good skimmer for a 10 gal

I had a nano skimmer before but I hated it. If you don't think I need one than maybe I'll just upgrade the filter than. The one I have on it now is really small.

    Are Boxing Crabs nocturnal?

I had one for quite a while and the only time that I ever would see it was an hour or two after the lights were off. I also noticed that it would sway and wave it's claws almost as though it was trying to dance. Maybe it thought that it would find a mate or something, I donno. But from my...
